Looking for 2x12 cab with PUNCH

I am considering a 2x12 extention cabnit for my Vox Valvetronix. They were supposed to make one, but, well, they don't. I had a Legacy 4x12 cab and it was the punchiest cab I've ever heard. Wonder if the Legacy 2x12 with 30's would provide similar results. Of course 2x12's won't sound like 4x12's, but in comparison to other 2x12's, wonder wich is the tightest, puchiest cab. My Vox is open back, which I like, But I want a closed back extention cab. Ay ideas?

I seem to recall hearing good things about Genz Benz cabs. They're a little pricey, though, as they're a small boutique manufacturer.

They have a closed-back ported stereo 2x12 that's endoresed by George Lynch.

I have to chime in on the Genz Benz.

Probably the only 2x12 I've heard that sounds almost as good as a 4x12.

The Genz-Benz G Flex 212 cab is the BEST cab on the market...period! It is the best gear investment I've EVER made! Get one now because I promise you won't be disappointed. No other 212 or 412 cab comes even close to that sound.

I'm no expert on cabs and I'm not gigging, but I've got a Legacy 2x12 w/ v30s and it's certainly got punch enough for my purposes. It's very loud when I want it to be and it sounds great. Playing with a Carvin X100B (running with 2 tubes pulled, which I'm told makes it like a 50W amp.) I was told the Vintage 30s sound great and they really do. However, I don't have the chance to really crank it for long periods of time, nor have I compared it directly with a 4x12 and my amp.

I have heard good things about the Genz-Benz. I have a Mesa 2x12 Recto cab and I am happy with it.

I've been out of the loop for a while since I had to put down the guitar
for a few years...

But the old Boogie 2X12 Half backs ROCKED! Put an EV on the bottom
and a Vintage 30 or Greenback on the top! Wow!

I had a matched pair stolen from me about 6 years ago. Boy do I miss
them.

But after researching those Genz...those look really nice!

Up untill now I still have been torn between which I'd like better, a Mesa 2X12 VERTICAL cab (the only model of its kind) or a Genz Benz. I really like the slaneted vertical cab because it seems by itself it would push much more air then a 2X12 on the floor...But then again Ive heard the Genz Benz will break your face off and then serve it back to you. And I meant that in a good way...Any suggestions or testaments? I believe revsharp777 he knows good tone. Point for the benz.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm telling you now, you won't regret it. For years, I've bought and sold all kinds of equipment looking for "the sound". Finally I broke down and ordered the Genz-Benz through www.legacymusicstore.com. When I got it, I was truly AMAZED at the tone, punch, & clarity. You also would not believe all the compliments I get on the sound on that cab. I was the 1st in my region to get one & since then, I know several dudes who bought one after hearing mine. TRY IT NOW! God, I should be a Genz-Benz salesman.

I would recommend Mesa 2x12 cabs with Vintage 30s in them.

I got two earlier this year and am very happy with them.

Best wishes

If you want to get away i little cheaper, and still get a good cab... Koch. Since it's made in Europe it might cost a tad more in the US. If you can find it, try it.

I have a friend, Shane Regals brother actually, that has a sound co. He uses Bag End speakers. They do kick serious behind. I don't have any idea they make a great guitar cab though. I'd be willing to look into it. Also, I am going to check out the Benz cabs. Of course the vertical cab sounds nice too.......And of course, the Legacy stuff is great.......
You guys are a lot of help.

I actually don't think there is a Benz dealer in the area. *drats*!

And Carvin will take that cab back, but you pay shipping both ways just to try it out.

*hmmmm* Actually, I tried this, and liked it:

I plugged my guitar into my Boss stereo chorus pedal, then went from that to my Vox Valvtronix, (which rules by the way) AND the other channel into my Pod 2.0 into my Hartke KickBack 10 bass amp. (major punch!) This is what happens. The Vox has more attack, and the Pod drags a small tad. This makes it sound simply huge. Also, you get triple chorusing, stereo into both amps, and stereo on the Vox. Then you set the delays a little different and, WOW! What coloring. Then go dry with no effects and it's still full as heck. I don't know if I'll try it live, mikeing both amps. But I'm thinking I might be able to put a paper speaker in the Harke, removing some of the brittleness, and it will rock TOUGH. Anyone else doing anything nutty like this? We guitar players are half wacked sometimes I think. But in the search for the alusive tone that defines us, we'll go to great lengths, and stupid expense.......

Rock on, Darin

Darin,
George was using the G-Flex cabs in Allentown. However, that probably was not the best night to assess them, given the fact that they were playing about 100 db louder than humans can tolerate!!!

So darin, I take it your from the Harrisburg area? We did a couple of shows there and used Sean (Shane Regal's brother) and Ed's system... I don't remember the brand, but the system was pretty nice.
We are possibly doing another run up there later this year...
