I've been reconsidering my rig as of late, and I've come to the conclusion that I need to downsize it. For practicing situations and possible band rehearsals/jams I can use my 2x12 valvestate combo, so I really don't need my 4x12 anymore. In my old band when we would play a gig my bassist had an ampeg svt4pro and the sound guys would always just use the xlr out on his amp and run it direct to the mixer instead of micing his cab and i'd like to do something similar, so for recording purposes and for live purposes I was thinking of maybe getting an FX pedal with direct outs or something similar that can just go direct to the recording device or PA, i.e. usb for computer recording or XLR outs for live use (i've heard meshuggah just run their podxt's or whatever direct to the mixer). I have a few questions though, as far as running direct in a live situation: do I just need an XLR out and i'm good to go? Cause some of the pedals are confusing and have xlr ins and outs but they say those are for mics so i don't know...some of the pedals I have been looking at are the digitech gnx pedals, boss gt-6, line 6 podxt live,
vox tonelab, and the roland vg-88. Any help would be very much appreciated guys!
