Looking for good Drum Machine

I am looking for a good drum machine
Any suggestion?

Any drum machine that can use computer to edit drum tab(i mean using the mouse to edit the drum tab, like using some software like guitar pro to edit guitar tab, because i don't play drum....i don't know the name of the drum parts...)
any drum machine is so popular that I can download patches created by other users?

Not sure what drum tab is, I edit my stuff in standard notation in Logic Audio. *As far as drum machines go, I have a Boss DR-5, it's pretty cool 'cause it's 4 track sequencer in addition to a drum machine. *It has 100s of voices so, for example, you can sequence a drum track, a bass track, a keyboard track and a second guitar or piano track. *It also has a very "guitarist" friendly interface too, the keypad is laid out like a fingerboard. *I really don't know about the downloading patches either, I haven't really looked into it. *Now I do most of my editing on the computer with Logic and just use the DR-5 as a tone generator. *It works pretty well for that too since it can play 4 voices at a time on 4 MIDI channels. *Right now I am looking for a tone generator that has 64 note polyphony and can talk to 16 channels at a time so I may be selling my DR-5 soon. *If you are interested drop me an e-mail. *

Sorry, this isn't a sales pitch, there are lots of cool drum machines out there, check out Boss and Alesis stuff, they seem to be the "standards" so you can probably find the most online info on them. *

i have an alesis sr-16 and am convinced that its a good unit. very user friendly and dirt cheap to boot. this post made me look into its midi possibilities so i decided to do some checking and apparently there is shareware out there that can do the sequencing you speak of. im going to download it and mess around some. considering i'm "midi stupid" at present it could take awhile, but i will keep you posted.

Which one has got better drum samples? The user interface buden could be overcome by means of an editor on PC.

Between the Boss and Alesis unit, I would say the sounds are pretty equal. *It would be best to listen to both of them yourself and decide which you like better. *

The cool thing about the DR-5 is the bass and keyboard sounds, the guitar sounds aren't that great, but being a guitar why would you want to sequence guitar parts.

A while ago I had checked some hardware sequencers of Yamaha and Boss. I wasn't convinced much. Maybe I should check a syth-expander? Does anyone know one with good drum sounds? A cool Hammond simulation would be cool too, besides the bass sounds of course. Am I demanding too much?
