Looking for some opinions on the Marshall Micro Stack amp

hi all =)

I am looking for some opinions on the Marshall Micro stack amp, I am thinking of getting one, and would like to know if anyone here has tried them out. I live in a remote location, and there aren't any music stores within 300miles of me to go and try one out.

thanks in advance =)

First off, DONT.

Just because it looks cool doesnt mean it will sound good. Its basically a $300 practice amp, and doesn't have enough juice for any stage.

Whats your budget? You can get a good setup for about the same $$$$

Or the $50 one that's the size of your average grapefruit? It's a cool little "jam anywhere" amp, but don't expect it to sound like a JCM800.

I have the little MS-4 I think its called, the 8" tall 'full stack', and it sounds quite cool, an AC/DC sort of tone. It wont be clean at high volumes though, Basically, the volume and gain knobs perform exacxtly the same function-they both make it louder and dirtier when you turn them up.

Good for nothing. Believe me. I've got one just for decoration.

For $500?

Pass. Get a normal Marshall.

For USD500 there are good options.

Re: Looking for some opinions on the Marshall Micro Stack amp

I just picked up a Marshall AVT20, and it's an awesome little practice amp. I picked it up at Guitar Center for $250. The Micro amp was on sale for $299 and this blows it away as far as tone. I've also got a JCM800 w/ 2 4X12's so I wasn't looking for an amp to gig with. I wanted something to bring the sound of my JCM800 to a reasonable level without loosing the portability of a good practice amp. I gotta say, I'm loving that little amp. Plenty of kick, but it has a few drawbacks. No footswitch to switch channels. For me it wasn't an issue, I wanted something to practice at home, or kick to a buddies to jam, but for many I think this might be an issue. The second flaw is that it's noisy when you're not playing. It's got a pretty loud hum to it. Again, nothing to cry in my milk about.

If you're looking for a solid gigging amp for around $500, look at the Marshall AVT50. It adds the footswitching capability. It'll still hum, but it's got that classic marshall sound. The AVT series is by far the best of the hybrid amps I've played on. Any ways, that's just my 2 cents!

Rufes, what kind of used gear should I be looking for? I don't mind used gear at all.

GLG421, I am checking out the AVT50, looks pretty sweet =)

Thanks for the quick responses!

For $500 you should be able to find a nice used Peavey XXX combo. It's all the metal you'll need.
