Lose picks (plectrum) Often?

I seemingly lose my picks alllllll the damned time...
With one exception.
This one:

I've had this pick for 6+ years, and I stole it from my old guitar player.
I can't seem to lose this thing, Its like Herpes or something, It always comes back again.
No other pick is around long enough to look like this one, and I still haven't worn it out, just in. Kinda wierd isn't it?
I mean I'll find it in the wash, or in the driveway, or in the seat cushions, or in a jacket I haven't worn since last season, the thing is just always turning up.
Kinda like that Steven King film: "Trilogy of Terror", with that lil voodoo doll, with the teeth and the knife. Only no bad really comes of it.

Just thought I'd share an odd thing with you guys.
(kinda like an old gf I had, she wouldn't go away)

lol! I've got a pick like that-my first ever pick, Gibson medium in black. I've had it four years, its been worn COMPLETELY round, as in, it's now a circle, and it wont leave me alone! I've found it wedged between keys on a keyboard, under a carpet, and in a crate of cider! Most peculiar!

Anyone else have any stalker plectrums?

Ok, I've never actually seen a pic so old it's become filthy. Wow. You my friend have a gift.

Seriously, that IS pretty cool. I keep a pick I bought the day I bought my first "real" gutiar, a USA Stratocaster, with the date of purchase written on it in my strat's case, but that hardly counts, I don't think I've ever used it.

I've definitely had a problem with losing picks, but never with them seeming to stalk me. When I first started playing, I didn't know how long I should use a pick so I wore the crap out of my first pick until it broke.

Re: Lose picks (plectrum) Often?

I got in the habit early of always sticking my pick in between the guitar strings and sliding it up by the nut where the strings hold it tight enough so it doesn't fall out. That way, I don't have to look around for a pick when I pick up a guitar, the pick is right there by the nut, pretty much always. Though some times, I have caught myself playing after picking up a guitar, and thinking, "something's wrong, something sounds weird." and I look down, and there's still a pick sitting there in the strings because I already had a pick in my hand when I picked the guitar up. I usually don't lose picks, I wear them down until they're too nubby, but I'm loathe to throw them away. So I have tons of pick nubs lying around too.

Also, in the last few years, it's dawned on me that I'm 36 years old and I have a real job and stuff, so the cost of picks is low enough that I now fairly frequently will buy a dozen picks then bring them home and dump them in a pick jar. So I have hundreds of picks lying around, (but a too large percentage worn down to nubs.) I'm still working on learning to throw away the nubs.

Sadly the Jazz IIIs and the Stubbies I use don't do well across the fretboard.
I ended up buying a case of Stubbies and Jazz III red & Black and just have a couple hundred at my disposal at any given time, but this one always finds its way back to the top. Law of averages I guess, but of the hundreds I've lost over the years, you'd never think that one would keep showing up.

Re: Lose picks (plectrum) Often?

Bamm - I used to have picks lying all over the place, but now, with a 14 month old daughter walking about I have been paranoid about leaving loose picks around. There was a picture in one of my medical journals of a Fender medium pick swallowed by some kid lodged just above his epiglottis - scary.

The one pick that I can't get rid of is a well worn black medium/thin fender type that says "Millburn Music". It just seems to crawl from case to gig bag to case to wherever...

It's difficult to lose a pick that's a foot thick

I should drill a hole in it and wear it around my neck.

I never lose any picks. I always put them at the same place after I played my guitar. This way, I always know where to find them. The only picks that I always lose are toothpicks.

Gee I go through picks too quick to lose them. They wear down real fast and don't feel as good for faster single note picking.
