Lovin my SuperSonic so far

UPS just dropped off my SuperSonic this morning and I didn't get to play with it until a couple hours ago.

I really like it so far, the clean channel is absolutely amazing and I don't understand why people hate on the Vibrolux channel so much, to me it has its uses for certain stuff but I do definitely like the bassman channel better. Much more round and has much more bottom end to it, it just fills the room up.

She is LOUD, it is weird though, after around 5 on the volume knob its doesn't drastically get louder it just breaks up alot and kind of doesnt sound very good. I am pretty sure it is biased good, it is a newer model and sounds like others ive heard in the store.

I am having trouble fussing with the burn channel I cant get any real sounds I am happy with but I know it can be done after hearing Darins clips on here so I am going to have to purchase some pedals here soon.

This could also be because this is my first real tube amp and im no expert at adjusting the settings and all. This is going to be quite a journey for me, all ive ever used was modeling amps and solid states with a distortion pedal in front of it, im planning on getting into some compression pedal, eq pedal, and i want a BD-2.....Basically what i am saying is im going to copy Darin, although this probably won't matter because my playing is not near on par with his.

There it is, any questions or suggestions lemme know!

Re: Lovin my SuperSonic so far

also try, treble off, or maybe at 5%, mid at half, bass all the way up. 1st gain all the way up, 2nd gain off for crunch, all the way up for shred. also. an eq in the loop with a slight smile opens it up tonally. it's not a super loud amp. but who needs an amp that's too loud? also, try a slight overdrive in front of the amp, not distortion, and not a lot of drive, just a tad.

Re: Lovin my SuperSonic so far

I had played one in the store, but I can't really turn it up. Ive seen people discussing it on here, and they all agree its a GREAT recording amp, its really versatile, but it doesn't sound too good cranked....

I really like it though, and I don't gig, so I'm probly gonna get one, if I can manage saving up the cash...

I would assume that this is due to fender using a linear pot for volume instead of an audio taper pot. There is some good information out there on the difference between the two but from my understanding it is simply a difference in how the audio curve gets from 0 -100%. I guess the ear hears exponentially, meaning something has to be 10x as loud to be perceived as double volume.

I could be wrong...? but the moral of the story is that Fender (among many other companies) plays a trick on all of us by putting linear taper pots in the volume stage of their amps. What this does is make the amp seem loud at 3 or 4 in the shop and we all assume that its going to be more than twice that loud on 10 when we get it home and get a good chance to crank it up.

Everyone seems to think that the supersonic takes a dump about half its potential volume but the truth is that with the RIGHT pot we would all realize that the amp doesn’t distort until about 90 percent of its output.

The other thing I'm curious to know is if the head with a 2x12 cab would perform any better?
