Lowering the strings - closer to the neck

Hi. I want to make my strings closer to the neck. I've checked the tech section of the site but I'm a little confused. To do this, I would think that I would have to lower the bridge, right? Right now, the string is about 5.5mm from the neck at the 12th fret. I would like to make it about 3 or 3 and a half mm from the neck. How do I do this? Or is this something that I should get a professionnal to do?

Obviously you're measuring from the wood to the string and not the top of the fret to the string? Lowering the bridge is all you have to do as long as the angle it sits at is correct. If the bridge will not lower enough then you'll need some other tweaks. Just follow the tech section.

no, you don't need a pro. first of all, measure from the top of the fret, not the actual wood! basically, you just lower the bridge (taking some springs off first would be a good idea). it's all in the tech section

From the fret, its 3mm. I'll check the tech section again.

That's seriously high, I'd make sure you don't have way too much front bopw in the neck. Fret the low B at the 1st and 24th and measure between the top of the 9th at the bottom of the string.

The bottom of the string and the top of the fret at the 9th fret is 2mm. This is on the low E (I'm not sure what you meant by low B, I'm on a six-string).

Meant E, typed B. I'm assuming you didn't fret the string at the 1st and the 24th when measuring? It should be somewhere around .5mm
