Re: M-Audio Fast Track: Worth it as a basic recording interface?
I like mine Ok. It's my first such piece of equipment, so I don't have a lot of experience with other devices.
Mine came bundled with Ableton Live lite, which is a fairly decent DAW. It's been tough learning how to use it, but I'm making progress.
The set-up with fast track was quick, and easy. I'm not running some monster PC. AMD xp 3200 with 1 GB RAM, and the latency is low enough with the ASIO driver. I've been running a DI input from a Marshall AVT-20, and it's a pretty good recreation of the sound. good enough for some basic recording. But I want to move into Mic'ing the amp at some point. I think I paid $99 brand new for it from GC about a year ago. I kind of wish I'd spent the extra $40 and went up to the four port, but I figured I'd spend as little as possible while I got my feet wet. Like I said, I'm still just getting started in to the recording arena.
This should probably be moved into the recording forum. The guys there have a much wider breadth of experience and recommendations.
