Mark IV Retired- now what?

When I was just in the market for a Mark IV, they are now retired. I like to buy tube amps new and was just wondering what's the next best thing or replacement for this amp? I like distorted leads and heavy rhythm sounds. Not a blues guy.

The rumours point to a new Mesa amp in the next few months.

You will still buy a new MKIV if you want - there's going to be stocks of them in plenty of dealers for a while, if you hunt around you could find one no problem. And dealers are allowed to ship M/B amps out of state once they are technically 'discontinued' models, so that may help also.

Supposedly a Mark "V" will be coming out. Apparently Petrucci has been using a prototype of it on this latest Dream Theater tour.

There is always one or two on e6ay at any given moment. The thing was in production forever so I don't expect the used market to slow down anytime soon.

Re: Mark IV Retired- now what?

aye. It's very recently retired. I gurantee you can still get a new one if you call around the local shops as well as the larger chains (sam ash, guitar center, etc.) Although I believe sam ash isn't supposed to cary new mesas. Guitar center does however (atleast the one around me.) Also by calling one they can usually find one that does have one.

Also don't forget mesas are built quite solid. I've never seen a broken mesa (with the exception of broken tubes).

So a used one should work almost like new.

I'm really anxious for some info to be released about the Mark V soon. Hopefully it is as good if not better than the IV.

MIDI control maybe?

Re: Mark IV Retired- now what?

The best mesa ever is either Mark IIC+ or Trem-o-verb, depending on the gain structure you like. Mark, obviously, has Fender tonestack placement, while Trem-o-verb has Marshall layout. I'd love to see a IIC+ reissue. I'm not too hot on paying in excess of $2.5K for a vintage one.

So would I. They've also discontinued the Mark I reissue.

Room for a reissue of the most highly acclaimed perhaps?

Re: Mark IV Retired- now what?

When i was shopping i narrowed my pick down to two amps, a Mesa Mark IV and a Mesa Stiletto stage two. Now if you have played a Stiletto stage one they arent the same as the Stage two. The SI was awfule IMO. I really love the SII i even bought it over a mark IV. Get a Trident or a Deuce skip the ace. I bought a deuce and i love it.

Re: Mark IV Retired- now what?

I will eat my hat if Mesa/Boogie EVER reissue the IIC+

That's not their style, they move forward not back. If you ask him (Randall Smith) why they don't, he would say 'Buy the new one...its better!'

The Mark I reissue was a one-off, it was a milestone both for the company and for guitar amplification. That was a special case, they won't reissue any other models (imo).

The Mark IV is being cleared to make way for the new Mark V. Not sure of the due date for the Mark V, though.
