So I've seen Mark Wood on TV and such now and then.... the other day, I saw some 12 year old kid playing one of those flying-v electric violins, and I only caught a few seconds of it, but it sounded pretty smokin'. Then his mother was on and mentioned that it was a "viper six string fretted violin." Well, now that's googleable, and google it I did. So it suddenly dawns on me that it's not impossible that I could own one of these things. Hmmm. Always looking for something to keep boredom at bay.
I guess a six string fretted electric violin that looks like a flying V is in some respects a very good marketing play. "Six strings? Frets? Flying V? Electric? Distortion? Hey... that all seems so very familiar!" say a half-million guitarists to themselves as they sit watching TV... "I bet I can play that." as opposed to the traditional violin -- 4 strings, acoustic, no frets, foreign bowing, eh, impossible.
Well, not to discount the true merits of the instrument, regardless of how much sense it makes from a marketing perspective.
Just wondering if anybody here's got one, and what they think of it?
My dad plays bluegrass fiddle some, I sent him a link to Mark Wood's site, but he didn't seem too enthusiastic. Guess a screaming violin solo thru a Marshall stack is not frequently called for in bluegrass, lol.
I guess I'm just curious. Man, I thought I had some expensive guitars.... in a way, I'm glad I
don't play violin, a decent violin is gonna cost you some dough.
Here's a link, in case you don't know what I'm talking about and can't be bothered to google:
