I have the DSL100..

Same thing as the TSL except the TSL has 3 channels as opposed to 2. And I believe the footswitch is a little better.

So if those extras are worth the 200 ( I think ) bucks extra to you...get the TSL. If the TSL was out when I got the DSL..I would have gotten the TSL

I have a 1960A cab. The 1960B is the same as the A but the B is a slant cab.

I know this isn't too related, but if you can, try and get your hands on a JCM800 or something older. Quite a few people I know agree that there's something more magical about the sound you get out of them. Oh, and use an overdrive/boost pedal in front of it to crank the gain! The anniversary heads aren't bad either.

If this isn't an option you want to consider then I'd just say A/B them in a shop if possible and see which you like best.

Cab wise I'd shop around a bit instead of going for your standard marshall cab. Have a listen to the head through several brands and try diffeent speakers. I am sure if you dig around in the forum you can find quite a bit about this subject, if not, start a thread! I have two marshall cabs of differing ages, and they sound quite different to each other.

The TSL also features some gadgets like direct recording output, 100/25W virtual power reduction, two fx loops, etc... I would go for the TSL if you want a more versatile amp, otherwise the DSL seems great.

Q: *What's the best marshall?
A: An Egnater TOL100!

I own a DSL401 and I really regret not getting the head and an accompanying cab. Why? Because you don't get the toys on the combo that you do with the 100W version.

I digress. I actually prefer the tone of the DSL to the TSL. However, the channels on the TSL are all footswitchable - you can't switch between crunch and silly without reaching down and pressing a button on the DSL (on the combo, anyway).

If you're being picky, then get Slash's signature head. It's effectively a JCM800 (so I've heard). Overall, I think I prefer the sound to even the DSL.

it depends on what sound you want. Personally, I'm not a big fan of marshall (prefer peavey 5150, line 6 and mesa) but believe it or not those mg100rcd's are really ballsy with tons of saturation.

I've got a Marshall JCM900 and I love it to death!!! Beat the bag out of the thing and it comes back for more. I suppose if I had some money I would probably get a JCM2000, and run stereo. *WOO HOO!!!! The difference in the slant or straight cab is that the slant kinda blows the sound up toward you so you can hear your stage volume. I've got a 1960b (straight cab) and I wish I had a slant. So get the slant cab, and try a JCM2000!!!

If it has to be Marshall, I'd definitely go with the JCM800. The JCM600 isn't bad either. Balls to the bone.

I have a JCM 800 50W and I prefer the TSL-100 head over it. *More options, tighter sound. *The JCM 800 has some sort of pure smoothness though that I can't put my finger on...

I don't believe they make them anymore (800's). *Look on **** and you'll pay from $500 - $700 for one. *Mines from the early 80's and it needed alot of work. *BUT, I got mine before the big JCM 800 craze and got it for $325.

The new Zakk Wylde Marshall head is based on the 800 and you might want to check that out when it becomes available. *I heard good things about that head.
