Marshall 1960A vs Legacy 4x12 - Comparison

I am using a Legacy head and I need a second cabinet, and am considering buying a Marshall 1960A (used for $300) or a straight Legacy 4x12 cab (that will match my Legacy slant.)

The Legacy costs $499 new and the Marshall is $300 used. *So, price-wise the Marshall is winning hands down.

But I don't want to be held up by money. *I am sure I can find a used Legacy cab for a better price.

OK - what are your opinions of the two cabs. *I haven't A-B'd them, but from memory the Legacy cab sounds a bit better.

I haven't tried a Legacy cab but I've used Marshall 1960s and they sound great, for $200 less you can't go wrong unless you really want to match. *

Marshall 1960A vs Legacy 4x12

I've never had the luxury of playing though the Legacy cab but I have played through both the 1960A and AX.The AX is the one with Greenbacks and really kills the A.If memory serves correctly the Legacy has Greenbacks so I'd go with the Legacy. The 1960A sounds dead to me.
Later yo.

Marshall 1960A vs Legacy 4x12

I use The Legacy cab with the head and itīs great, they comlement each other very well. Bofore I bought the cab I used the head with my Mesa recto cab (vintage 30`s) and it made the legacy sound too bass heavy and a bit harsh on low volumes.. But cranked it sounded really good, *more high end *than with the Legacy cab, great lead sound, but it didnīt sound as good for rhythms. The legacy cab smoothens everything out and sounds tighter, works good for lead and rhythm. Before I had the mesa cab I had a Marshall cab with vintage 30īs and Itīs my favourite Marshall cab, less bass than the Mesa but I guess it would work great with the Legacy, because the added bass in the Mesa cab really was a problem when used with the Legacy which is bassy on itīs own, hard to get a good balance in the sound. And I like bass. Iīm not too fond of the standard Marshall cab, it doesnīt let enough harmonics through. It works good if you have a really trebly amp, sounded pretty good with my Recto head. But I think the Legacyīs sound would suffer. Just my opinions from using these cabs with my amps. your ears might tell you a different story.

Kirk,
I just A/B'd the Marshall 1960A cab with a Legacy cab last week. *The Legacy cabinet creamed it. * The bottom end on the Marshall completely fell apart. *The Legacy sounded much tighter, and IMHO tonally much better. *I'm sure the Legacy is a much better constructed box. *By the way, your stuff is on it's way.

Marshall 1960A vs Legacy 4x12

I A/B'd too. *The Marshall cab was terrible. *I need a second cab, one for home, one for rehearsal. *When I used the Marshall for rehearsal, I was very disappointed, and returned it immeadiately.

Just to make myself feel better I had to come home and fire up the Legacy cab, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

Hands down, the Legacy 4x12 is a superior cabinet.

yep I just got my newest carvin catalog in they switched to the v 30's in the legacy cabs and combo in fact carvin does not even sell the green backs any more but they sell the v 30's now and for $100 a speaker that's $400 for a set and its only $99 more dollars for the cab and all wired up its its really a great price ($499) they did not raise the price of the cabs even though the cost of the speakers changed.

Marshall 1960A vs Legacy 4x12

Good to know. My next (spouse approved) acquisition will be a 4X12 bottom. Looks like it’ll be a Legacy to match the head.

I have seen some pretty scary bottoms in my day. I think that’s why I quit going to the beach on Labor day.
