Marshall 1987x Head - Opinions?

I have been looking at these more and more recently. I have been dithering over different amps (both combo's and head's) for about 6 months now. And I still cant decide what I really want/need.

I am a big Yngwie fan (as some of you know) - and thats what got me onto the Marshall 1987x. I have been looking at them since about January time, and I keep going back to them. They seem just what I am after.

And seeing as it is modelled on the same amps that Yngwie uses, I know I will get the tones out of that I need, especially when used in conjunction with my DOD YJM308 pedal.

But I just wondered if anybody on here has tried one, or has got one, or knows someone who has one?

Just looking for some opinions overall really.
I have read the reviews on Harmony Central 100 times over, and all the reviews and opinions I have read, have seemed pretty positive.

At the same time however, I have also been looking at the Laney GH50L Head as well. It is another 50watt head, so has the same basic specs that I want and like from the Marshall - plus its about half the price of the Marshall!

Any opinions welcome of course!

If your looking for the Yngwie tone, a Marshall would be a good way to go. A good Marshall is a good staple, a pretty good choice.

Those laney's are great too. Really unique tone, sorta marshally, but more Vox AC30 in character. Very cool. Ive got an 80's Laney AOR pro tube, cost me $350, and it kills any of the new marshalls.

Yeah, both amps are really nice.
I would get to a local store and try them, but my local store has neither in stock, and I cant ask them to order both in especially for me! lol
I need to find somewhere where I can try both and see which one suits my needs more.

I am pretty sure it will be the Marshall, especially when slammed with an OD pedal and the likes.

lol, I love it when people say that!

"Dont worry about it........GET BOTH!"

I just wished that was an option at the minute, lol.
Eventually I suppose I will get both though yeah.

Do yourself a favor and look for one from 69-74. They don't sell for any more than a used reissue and are of much higher quality and sound ever so much better (no cheap transformers or circuit boards like they use now!).

That was always an option too of course. I have always liked them. But I still have my heart set on the Marshall or the Laney. Most probably the Marshall. I just want that particular Marshall tone and look really.

Plus Marshalls are easier to get for me from my local shops/dealers. So they would be easier to service too. Although saying that, the Laney factory itself isnt too far away from me.

I will HAVE to try both at some point, and see which takes me fancy.

yeah thats good, im not a fan of marshalls, i used to be though, i see it as more of a fad now, i do like the jcm800 since it has the highest gain of all, and gain is what i live for, but im not going to say marshalls suck, theres just other amps out there that are cheaper that can give me the same or better tone then a marshall can. im getting the engl fireball, and im using my 5150 as a back up.

JCM 800 2210 is always one of the best choices (with a 1960 marshall cab too). Turn everything to ten and you can hear God.

The JCM800 is far from the highest gain Marshall. If you mean the JCM 800 era 1987X... the JMPs have the same amount of gain. The handwired ones are still the best sounding amps you can find.
