Not worth it unless you can crank it.

Awesome amp, I wish I never sold mine. If I remember right its switchable from 50 down to 25 watts
I've had Hotplates, and they are garbage.

Would the Marshall power brake work better with a Marshall amp than a hotplate would?

Re: Marshall jcm 2555sl (slash sig.)

The only one I ever used was a Hot Plate, but it made my Plexi RI and SLX sound like garbage. It sounded better running the amp quiet than cranked with a hot plate. I cant say anything about the Marshall Power Brake, but after my experience with the power brake, I dont think I would ever waste my money on another attenuator. The built in one on my Ampeg VL-502 wasnt much better.

How about a Weber Mass? It uses an actual speaker motor, so I'd imagine it would be better than those with resistors.

I have read nice things about the Weber, but the Jubilee has master volume.

Re: Marshall jcm 2555sl (slash sig.)

I've used a few attenuators in the past (owned and used a Marshall Powerbrake for 6 years, used a hotplate for a short while) and they both sucked tone from my setup (the Hotplate more so, surprisingly).

Last year, on recommendation, I bought one of these:

www.ultimateattenuator.com

and couldn't be happier with my tone. Does exactly what it says it will; completely transparent, no tone colouration whatsoever (to my very fussy ears anyway). Check out the reviews on Harmony Central to see what others say about it.

Mark is also a nice guy to deal with too. The attenuator certainly isn't cheap, but it has totally 'made' my sound for me.

Good luck!
