Marshall JCM800
Those of you who have JCM800's, please share your experiences/opinions. Also if you have any soundclips, that would be great. I played one at Guitar Center, and I REALLY liked it. I'm planning on getting one after I earn some money this summer, specifically a 2204 50w.
Thanks

Re: Marshall JCM800
Up until not so long ago I had a JCM800 single channel 2x12 50watt combo which was/is a nasty sounding little beauty of an amp. The JCM 800 seems to be the last of the Marshalls that really tried to build upon the original JMP/Plexi tone - not by any stretch of the imagination a
high gain amp
, but sweet, well defined and with classic Marshall crunch. For a while I entertained the notion of running the JCM800 with a Boss DS-1 and a few other bits and pieces, however ultimately the lack of channel switching, and lack of an effects rack (both of which were solveable by our local amp tech BTW), along with four or five years of patch tweaking made me return to the Tri-Axis.
They are a great, great sounding amp for classic rock sounds, just a wee bit lacking in flexibility, at least for me! Loud too!
Cheers
David

Re: Marshall JCM800
I had a JCM 800 head from 1988-1999. It was model 2210, a 100W split-channel thing with reverb. And man, that thing KILLED. Best Marshall I have ever heard, period. Loud as hell though. With the right guitar and the right pickups, it was a total monster. Sold it for £225 in '99 to pay bills, and regretted it ever since, especially since they now sell for around £1000 (approx. $2000).
Buy a JCM 800, you will not be disappointed. Just make sure the tubes are good.

Re: Marshall JCM800
Yeah. I really want that
John Sykes
tone, just a good crushing Marshall tone. What are your opinions on mods done to them, such as Voodoo Amps mods?

Re: Marshall JCM800
I don't think I've heard a Voodoo modded one. Or have I? Which players use those, and what kinda mods are done?

I think John Sykes used one, I'm not sure though.

Re: Marshall JCM800
I had a 50 watt, single channel version for a while. Keep in mind that they are really loud (duh), and have a very prominent high end, almost to the point where it hurt my ears.
