Marshall TSL valves

Just wondering, but is it possible to put 5881 valves in a TSL100?

Any help appreciated

Chud, I hear you so loud and clear!

I've wondered this myself. I did ask someone, and they said there might be a bit more to it that just a re bias, such as replacing other components.

I will look forward to what some other people say.

Re: Marshall TSL valves

You need to replace about 30 resistors and you will be fine. Otherwise it might be too cold.

Eep.

I was looking at mabye replacing the EL34's with either 6550s or 5881's.
Just to see what sort of tone difference i get. Therefore, the easier the change, the better

Might even be fun trying out some 6L6's haha

Yeah I've heard it's a bit more work to bias 2000s for other tubes than many other amps. But it's mostly biasing issues and there is a resistor you will want to change for the bottom end.

5881's are 6l6's, just named different in different countries.
I was told this by a place just up the road from me called Watford Valves.

Oh that's news to me

I never knew that 5881's were the same as 6L6. I thought they were different types of valves considering VHT says they use them in poweramps and say something along the lines of "Not as flabby as 6L6's"
