Mesa Boogie Mark IV

It finally happened!!! I am now the proud owner of a Mesa Boogie Mark IV Widebody Combo. It is completely original, but is missing the casters and has recentely gotten a clean bill of health from the sellers local music store. Picked it up on evilbay for $1000 US. Any advice for a new boogie owner?

Re: Mesa Boogie Mark IV

Wellcome to the Mesa club!

Had my Mark IV for about 4 years and I still love it. Wouldn't mind a Road King though....

To start you off go to www.mesaboogie.com and download the users manual(that's another great thing about Mesa: you can download users manuals to ANY mesa product) and start tweaking. Since the controls on your Mark IV are very active it doesn't hurt to know a bit about how they work. You will not get the best sound from your Mesa by turning everything to 11.

Tweak away!

Awesome amp, so many good tones to be had. Can be tough to dial in though. Mikael is right download the manual and start with those settings I also found some settings at I think grailtone but its been awhile. I really wanted one of these. But I am too fidgety. When I tried one out I was constantly mess'n with the knobs and switches.

Re: Mesa Boogie Mark IV

Welcome to the Mesa family, just got my first mesa a few weeks ago Don't be afraid to do a LOT of tweaking on the EQ and such to get that perfect "tone-in-your-head" to reality. They can have a kind of steep learning curve for those looking for instant gratification. DEFINTALLY worth the extra time though - wonderful tones can be coaxed from these puppy's

Oh and congrats on the deal, 1000 sounds stellar for one of those!

Re: Mesa Boogie Mark IV

I tried the head version through a 4 x 12 cab...TALK ABOUT LOUD!!! To loud even for the music store...

Does volume in Tube amps concern the cab size i.e it's a ton less volume with a 1x12 thena 4x12?

Re: Mesa Boogie Mark IV

UPDATE!!!

This is the best amp I have ever had the pleasure to play through. All I can say is WOW!!! It is loud. I have yet to have to turn it up past 3 on the dial. The tone is unbelievable. Must now get an extension cab for it.

Re: Mesa Boogie Mark IV

My advice..... enjoy it! Boogies are the best tone monsters on the market, and the Mark 4 is easily one of the best. One of the things I love about Boogies is the just on the edge of overdrive sounds that you can get when you wind the gain down and the volume up - Robben Ford tone by the bucketload!

Lovely amps.
I wanted one, but ended up getting its British counterpart, the Marshall 6101 30th Anniversary. I couldn't find a Mark IV combo secondhand at a decent price, and new they were too expensive for me.
Still I wonder what it would have been like if I got a Mark IV.

Mark IV .... excellent, congrats !

If I could pick up a MarkIV for $1000 over here (750euro), i'd probably have a whole room full of 'em.
