Hey jemsiters!! long time no complaining!! haha. well i came on here after a while because i have another amp problem.
Just now, both my clean and contour channel on my Mesa have had a decline in their tone almost by half. I dont know what the problem is. I swapped my old 6L6's with brand new 6L6's. could it be my preamp
tubes that need changing? also, when i play, i get this wierd clanking sound like glass hitting against something. i checked the tubes and they are completely tight in their sockets. what could it be?
and also, while i was checking this, i unplugged all effects going into the effects loop and turned on the contour channel and i get this weird hum. its like when a really high gain distortion pedal is on in your lead channel. its not real loud, like it is clouded by my playing but its there when im not. I had that problem before i swapped out the 6l6's but went away after the swap. could the preamp tubes also be the culprit for this situation as well?
how can i check if my preamp tubes are old and need changing? do i do that "tap the tubes with the amp on and hear if there is a "pop" sound" test? does that apply for preamp tubes or just the normal tubes(cant remember the actual term)?
