Re: Mesa Lonestar Combo 1x12 vs THD Flexi 50.

I'm going to go test the mesa sometime soon, but I've found it hard to actually find a flexi in store anywhere here. So I go by what I've heard from samples found online,

Looking for a nice clean tone, and at the same time, have a nice mild distortion..
just versatile all round. I don't use any rack gear, just stomp boxes.

Also a combo pref, easier to carry around, but I've found the THD isn't that big of a head at all, so It would be easy to carry around as well.

Try these settings out to see if you like them. If you're just plugging in then adjust gain to taste. I boost with various pedals to get different sounds. Seems like a weird way to dial in an amp but it works.

Re: Mesa Lonestar Combo 1x12 vs THD Flexi 50.

Of the two, well, never played the THD (though I REALLY want to), but I'd be surprised if you could beat a Lonestar for a "nice clean and nice mild distortion."

The Lonestar is the only amp I've ever plugged into where I fired it up on the clean channel and played for a solid half hour before it even occured to me to check out the lead channel. The thing is evidently loosely inspired by a Dumble, and has one of the greatest spongy, chewy, organic clean sounds I've ever had the good fortune to play.

If you dig the smooth Mesa lead tone, you'll love the gain, as well - think a bluesier, more Texan Mark-IV.

If I was ever playing blues rock and nothing else, this would be on a very short list of amps I'd want to check out (a Dr Z Carmen Ghia being another one, though you'd need a good OD with it).
