Re: Mesa Mark IV help

One of the best amps I've ever owned. I can't really add anything to what has been said.

Do the trade with confidence!

Re: Mesa Mark IV help

Wellcome to the Mark IV club!

As allways, my advice is go to http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Mark%204.pdf and read the owner's manual. Since the controls on the amp are very active things really happen when you turn a knob and it makes sense to know how the controls interact. Turning everything to 11 is not the way to go with a Mark IV.

Regards
Mikael

Re: Mesa Mark IV help

Welcome to the MKIV Brotherhood! You just snagged one of the most versatile amps ever produced. I am not taking anything away from this site/forum, it is great. You really need to check out this site though, it is a font of boogie knowledge and will answer nearly all of your mesa questions.

http://forum.grailtone.com/index.php

Explore this part of the site as well for setting suggestions.

http://www.grailtone.com/tone-settin...-settings.html

A lot of people feel that the IV is just a functioning 2 channel amp because not many like Chan 2. I for one love it, and it will cop a Timmons tone with some tweaking. However, it is imperative to get your clean tone right first on C1, then tweak C2 without touching the Bass and Mid settings. I find gain at 10, treble at 8 and pressence at 6-7 works great for me. Also a clean boost in the front of the amp just pushes the entire amp over the edge, especially C2. Good luck.

Re: Mesa Mark IV help

Thanks man!! I've hit that site before and it is indeed a wealth of knowledge. I'm running a recto 2x12 cab and wondering if some of my tonal desires require a 4x12 as well. I've got a decent tone dialed in yet it seems like my G, B and E strings are more pronounced. It's like the highs are super sensitive, almost too sensitive if that makes sense. I can mute my guitar strings and barely touch the pick to the high E and the sound of the pick touching the string is SUPER loud. I do the same to my A or D string and nothing... The highs are sizzling too much for my taste. Is this a function of the presence control, treble or both?

Re: Mesa Mark IV help

You will find a lot of IV players rely on a Theile cabinet. I have a widebody amp, so I made a matching widebody theile. The Theile will add loads of low end thump without sacrificing mids or highs. It just seems like a perfect combo for that amp. I run a combo with a c-90 in it and the theile with a vintage 300watt evm 12l. Killer combo IMO. If you want a more compact rig check out a theile, it gives you just about what a 4 12 closed back will give you at a fraction of the size and weight.

Re: Mesa Mark IV help

One more thing, if you are talking about your lead channel getting too thin and sizzley, push the presence and zero it out. Hit the harmony instead of mid gain, and try simul and triode. SUper smooth lead sound. Lead gain and lead drive around 8 and both pulled, very petrucci sounding. Good luck, remember it takes most people with a very good ear for tone weeks to dial in that amp, don't get discouraged, once you get there, there is no turning back. The first time you get into that tone zone and sustain a note forever you'll know you hit it.

Re: Mesa Mark IV help

oh man, you've got me drooling on my keyboard ha ha! Yeah, I've realized that it takes time with this head. I'm going from a VHT-Pitbull / Marshall DSL to this beast so it's another animal that's for sure.

I'll post some video once I dial her in!

thanks again man
