Mesa Mark IV - Looking at other Amps

I currently use a Mesa Boogie Mark IV head with the 2x12 closed back cab - for inside small area jamming/recording. Awesome head. Lately, I've been wanting to venture into Marshall tone to see what it's all about. I was looking at a Marshall JCM800 with the Voodoo Amps Deluxe Mod. I'm also trying to compare my amp to a Bogner Ecstasy - as well as a comparison of the JCM800 modded amp.

Does anyone have an experience with the Bogner or JCM800 modded? I need MIDI switching for my effects and channel switching. I do have an Amp Gizmo so I can get the appropriate cable if needed be.

Thanks.

Re: Mesa Mark IV - Looking at other Amps

I use to have a JCM2000 DSL head and 1960 cab. I'm not sure how well it would compare with the 800, but im looking at overall marshall tone. I played it with a Gibson les paul classic. Overall, it wasn't my favorite amp but it was a solid amp. In terms of tone, it was pretty amazing and i'm sure most if not all marshall tube amps would replicate the same tone. The EL34 tubes provided plenty of gain to get by, but the cleans sounded pretty damn good. I ran into a few problems with it sounding muddy, but the was probably the guitar contributing to most of it, especially the 496 neck pickup. A little tweaking on the gain and bottom end fixed that right away though. I'm actually trying to make the conversion from marshall to either a mark IV or possibly a peavey JSX.

Re: Mesa Mark IV - Looking at other Amps

Hmm - I really love the Mark IV but I wanted to branch out and look at a Marshall or a modded Marshall.

I tried a JSX once and didn't really care for it at all. I want to sit down with a Bogner XTC and see what that's all about.

I play through a few different JEM's, 7 Strings and S / RG series guitars. I have a Les Paul BFG - but the neck is damn noisy..

Maybe not the advice you're looking for...

...but if you're fairly happy with the Mark-IV, but want something a little more Marshall-y, have you tried a Mesa Stiletto? Look for either an Ace or a Series II Deuce or Trident. This is all personal taste, of course, but I've heard of guys selling their Bogners for these things after playing them.
