Question

Mexican P-bass?

I'm going to buy a Precision bass in the near future, and I'm considering to buy a Mexican made one. But they are like half the price of the USA made ones. So are Mexican P-basses of good quality? Or are they going to fall apart in time, just like my Korean made Squier strat?

Re: Mexican P-bass?

I dont have a bass, but I have a MIM Strat Custom, which I played over 15 strats before I finally decided on my based on the looks fell (C - Shape Neck), & Tone.

My MIM start Custom is very well made, I have not had a issue with it going out of tune or breaking strings since my original setup.

I would of purchased a USA strat, but as I said, after playing all of them (MIM & USA), I found the one I purchased to be better for me in what I was looking for in a Strat, only strat I didnt play was a Eric Johnson Strat, because they were out of them.

Re: Mexican P-bass?

Thanks, bluealien. I've been looking around for a bassguitar, and I originally wanted an Ibanez soundgear. But the P-bass is better for me. One of the reasons being the neck profile.

Here's the one I want.

The only thing I'm still doubting, is if I want the S-1 switching system or not. This is only found on the USA made ones. I'll just have to check this out in the store, to see if I have a use for it or not.

Re: Mexican P-bass?

I've heard from more thana few guitar players, that alot of the Mexican strats and teles play and sound better than alot of the us ones. No guarantees either way. I'd have no problem paying $300 each and buying 2 for a Mexican Tele's before I spent $1000 on one US one.

Bass's, I no nothing about. But you should have any problems.

Re: Mexican P-bass?

Hi,
Tickling this old thread.
My son and I picked up a MIM P-Base & bag + Fender M-80 Bass amp (160 watt combo with 1-15") + Boss tuner + Danelectro "Licorice" pedal + 2 sets of EB strings. It was on Craigslist for $250. It had been in a storage unit for some time. I brought an extension cord and screw-into-light-socket plug adapter to power it up there in the storage unit drive. Needed strings and was a bit scratchy in the volume pot but sounded great! We brought it home and my kid cleaned and oiled the RW fret board and polished the frets. What fun to mess with this thing. The amp sounds decent but was oddly finished in grey carpet. This was stock from fender. The carpet is a bit ripe and the look is off putting do I ripped it off and will be ordering tolex online. Perhaps a colorful version. The bass is top notch.
Gotta love Craigslist!

Re: Mexican P-bass?

While reading the replies to this thread, I remembered that Steve Vai once sat out to buy a Strat. After trying fifty, he eventually settled for a non USA model, which was relatively cheap. Subsequently he used it on 'The boy from Seattle'.

So I guess I don't have to worry about the build quality, then.

I'm very excited. This is going to be my first bass. I can't wait to get my hands on this thing. So stay tuned for the 'Pics of my P-bass' thread, which I'll post when I have it. It'll probably be a couple of weeks before I have it.

I love the color of this one. It's called 'electron blue'.
