Midi Question

I've got a few Midi Organ Rack mount systems sitting around, and I'm wondering how I should hook them up to my GT-10 in order to get the sounds?

The Midi box I'm using is a Roland XV-2020. The GT-10 has a Midi in and out, and the XV has an in, out, and a thru.

How should I hook this up? I've tried a few different ways, but nothing seems to be happening.

Re: Midi Question

I'm not sure you can. You need to trigger the modules from something, and you can't do that with an audio signal.

You'd need to use a MIDI pickup to give you a MIDI out from the guitar, then run the guitar out through the GT and mix the modules with the GT in a mixer to blend the sounds.

Re: Midi Question

Do you mean the Boss GT-10?
If so, then it doesn't output midi notes to drive a synth module it just sends and receives controller and patch change information.
To use your sound module with a guitar you will need a pickup such as a GK-3 and a synth module such as the GR-20. The pickup sends the signal of each string to the synth and the synth detects the pitch and volume of the notes. Then the synth unit can send the note information via midi to the sound module.
Hope this helps,
Jim

Re: Midi Question

Ahh, this makes much more sense.

I have no idea about midi, so thanks for your help.
