Mini recto vs recto guitar cab?
Hi guys, I'm finally about to get a
Mesa Boogie
Mark V Head from my local store, but they don't have any recto cabs available, instead they offer me a mini
rectifier
1x12 cab. Question is: How different are mini recto cabs compared to rectos (we are talkin about the same dimensions, closed back 1x12 cab) in terms of sound?. Are they REALLY different in sound? Should I wait for the recto 1x12 cab (it would take months btw) or this mini recto 1x12 cab they offer me will sound as good as a recto 1x12 cab?. Remember this cab will pair my Mark V Head and I'm just looking for a 1x12 mesa cab because of space limitations. I Hope this post is clear enough. Thanks a lot guys

Sadly enough they got those cabinets on the warehouse and aren't available at the store for trying out but just Marshall 's (which I'm not interested honestly). Hope you guys know anything about those mini recto and recto cabs. Thanks a lot again

Re: Mini recto vs recto guitar cab?
i'd ask them to bring one from the warehouse for you to try with your amp if they want to sell one...just tell them you want to hear it for yourself, with your amp before you shell out the clams to purchase...they shouldn't have any problem with that...
good luck and i hope the mini sounds great with your
mark v

Re: Mini recto vs recto guitar cab?
Well mate I don't have the money at hand... they won't go through the work of doing that for yet another guy that want to try the stuff and not having the cash I'm afraid (happened before). I'd like to know if any of you guys have actually heard or know something about both cabinets and how different they are in terms of sound (having in mind it'll pair my mark v head), so I can ask them confident enough to bring that mini recto cab to try out and eventually buy it. Thanks again for the help

Well once you have the money available go and ask them. Everyone has different ears and tastes. Be patient and test it when you have the money.

Re: Mini recto vs recto guitar cab?
Thanks for the replies but still I'd like to know if any of you guys have actually heard how a mini rectifier
cabinet
sounds like and can compare it with a regular rectifier cab, any help is deeply appreciated. Thanks!

The full blown cab sounds bigger than the mini cab, end of story. Whether if you like the mini cab or not, you need to find out by youreself.

Re: Mini recto vs recto guitar cab?
at 1x12, its hardly going to make much difference, as if you were to gig with this setup, you would mic the amp anyways and then it wouldn't make a difference if you had a recto cab or a mini recto. They both use similar dimensions and 12"speaker, and if your jamming in your bedroom you wont tell the difference, same as if you gigged and mic it up...
Just buy it and be done with it... Its not like your going to miss out on tone... cause thats in the fingers..

It all sounds a bit, weird to me that they have a warehouse with speakers in but don't have a display model to sell some of the warehouse stock.
I suspect that the warehouse they are talking about is Mesa's.

I think the only difference is going to be in the dimensions of the cabinet itself, which basically means that one cabinet was made to be paired with the mini rectifier amp. They both have the same speaker, handle the same amount of watts and run at the same impedance. What store in Peru sells Mesa?

Re: Mini recto vs recto guitar cab?
Heh, I didn't even know Mesa made a 1x12 Recto cab.
My suggesation would be to keep an eye on the used market - 2x12s come up often enough in the $3-350 range, and 4x12s can be had for $500 or so if you're patient, which is probably less than a new 1x12. I've owned a couple 2x12s now and a 4x12 straight front, and they're both awesome cabs - the 2x12s are obviosuly a bit more portable and tend to be a little more midrange focused, while the 4x12s are bigger, fuller, and more expansive sounding.
