MONSTER INSTRUMENT CABLE(s)
I was actually reading another thread yesterday (that I can't find now) that talked about making your own cable. I looked at George L's site and a few others. If I understood George L -you don't even need to solder, just buy a length of cable and the 1/4" connectors you want, cut to desired length, and it somehow screws together. It just didn't look very sturdy and the cable was thin? I have a Furman
pedal board
(sorry, yes, it's pedals for me) and I just want to eliminate as much noise as possible on the board, make certain that I have the best cable for the Head - to - cab connection (and I know I don't), and have the LENGTHS that I want!!!!! Why is everything 12 ft.? This "make your own" idea sounds very interesting, and I'm not afraid to solder. Can anyone please comment?

You should definately check out Dimarzio cables as well. I paid about 50 Singapore dollars for mine, not sure about the length though. But it was the exact same one that came with JS CP and Chrome Boys...pretty cool if you ask me!
The sound is unbelievable.
I never bought into any of that "oh yeah a cable makes all the difference" talk before, but the Dimarzio really made me change my mind! Monsters are a little pricey if you ask me. Too expensive...for my small practice rig which I have in my room. And buying one cable is not going to make that much of a difference if you've got an elaborate setup so be prepared to spend a little cash....but the difference is worth it believe me!
I noticed a more pure, natural sound which I never got out of my guitar before, it's really noticeable on the distortion patches, I don't get anymore of that irritating noise. and furthermore the sound has so much more definition and clarity. Made me feel like I had a new guitar!
Chris.

Mark ~ the George L's are solderless, and
very
easy to use. In fact, if you have a pair of scissors in your gig bag, you can repair any George L's cable you break within about 3 minutes at a gig... I use George L's in my rack, between my pedals ('cause I still need a wah, a fuzz and an overdrive :-) and for everything else... All my cables are custom length, including my 12 foot cables I use between the guitar and the pedal board. I keep about 20' of cable and a dozen connectors lying around the house for emergency fixits :-)
George L's comes in two gauges. The thicker guage is probably more practical for running from your guitar to the pedal board but the thin guage is perfect for everything else. I actually use a thin guage cord to my guitar as well, but some people find the thin guage curls up too easily when they're moving about on stage...
I've A/B'd George L's against everything else in the house and they're clearly superior sounding cables. For what it's worth, I have a friend who bought two monster cables a few years back and was very unhappy with them both in the end (reliability issues). George L's are excellent on all counts and I can't recommend them highly enough.

MONSTER INSTRUMENT CABLE(s)
i too would pass on Monster and buy something like GeorgeL as Jimi stated. The weakest link in the cable is often the connector and the monstor connector will break just like any other... glen

I'll throw my hat in as a George L fan. *I use them exclusively, for everything. *Fantastic cables. *I used to have a pretty elaborate pedal board and it was really noisy until I wired it up with George L's, couldn't believe the difference. *Great peace of mind knowing you will never ever have a cable problem again, just snip off the tips and put the plugs back on. *I use the thin gauge for everything now, but am going to try the thicker gauge going from my
power amp
to my cabinet and see how that affects the low end response.

Dumb question maybe - "George L" as in George Lynch (Dokken, etc...)?
Is there a link you can throw in here to where the cables can be read about? Thanks guys! !

Yes it is. *I would just go to the website and buy a roll of the cable for your gig bag and a mess of plugs. *You can get as much as you want, I got a roll of 50 ft. and like 15 plugs and I have all I need for a long time. *Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

OK - this should be very cool. I did find the thread I originally saw the George L cables mentioned. I checked their site and there are no pics, so it's hard to get the gist of what it's all about. Go here: *
http://www.gtrheaven.com/accessories...=none&q=10
At least there are pics here so yo get an idea, and also, it's cheaper here (?). I just ordered the Vintage red FX kit = 5 ft. of cable, 10 right angle 1/4" plugs, and 10 right angle cable jackets. I think the vintage red stuff is heavier gauge (.255) than the black, so is probably better for instrument connections. I think this is a great idea! I have the lower end Monster cables for most of my stuff, but I'd like my own lengths and the ease of repair. *Jimi - you said you don't use this for head to cab connection? Why? Sorry for the long winded post. I love this forum!
