Moulded Team J-Craft Case fit for Air Travel?

I know this is somewhat of a popular topic, air travel and all. But I was wondering how the Team-J craft case that comes with the 05 JEMs would hold up when checked in as baggage to be shipped at the airport?

Of course I would like to carry on my guitar with a small padded case on board as a carry on, but I don't know if thats possible anymore especially after 9/11. And it is pretty much up to the discretion of the airline staff on the day.

There is the third option, which is purchasing a flight case. But I am really hesitant to do that because of financial reasons.

In addition with an Ibanez Double Locking Tremolo Guitar, an Edge Pro in particular, what procedures are to be done to ship the guitar in the cargo hold or carry it on board?

I've been thinking and maybe theres no need to detune. But how bout unlocking the nuts?

Sent 2 Ibanez J Customs in different Ibanez flight cases, they both went through just fine....

Do you mean you sent them in flight cases or the hard moulded cases that comes with JEMS?

Unlock the locking nuts definitely. But do NOT detune the guitar. It's actually putting the neck at more risk if you do that.

I really need to have confirmation for this. I dont know if I should go out and buy a flight case right before my flight.

Whens the flight?

Remember to undo the locking nuts and to keep the guitar tuned.

Although not as safe as a flight case, a moulded case should offer sufficient protection.

Just have it shut and secured shut as tightly as possible, and slap FRAGILE stickers all over it!!!

Re: Moulded Team J-Craft Case fit for Air Travel?

Thanks for the advice Pursuit. My flights in a few hours and I have decided to just use the moulded case. The nuts are unlocked and there are some towels under the headstock area to reduce moving volume.

I am going to wrap some tape around the sides of the case to keep the case shut at all times and if it needs to be opened the airport staff can do it easily.

It should be all good now. Thanks again.
