MXR 10-band

Just picked this pedal up from GC to try to get rid of the fizz a little in my XXX. This is an awesome pedal. I'm not going to lie and say that it hasn't made my XXX what I want it to be, but I think for my next amp it will be an even greater tool. My question is though, would a g-major or g-system, which I plan for in the near future, make having this 10-band useless (with its own built-in eq)? Or will it still be fundamental to use this as getting 'that sound' out of the amp, then maybe just using the eq from the processor as an added effect?

Re: MXR 10-band

I wouldn't say it would make it useless. The G-Major has a 3 band assignable parametric EQ in it which IMO doesn't work as well as a good graphic eq. I'd set up the 10 band to get your basic tone and then use the parametric to control the voicing of different presets.

Yea thats what I was figuring. Thanks. How come not so many people seem to be using a graphic equalizier then? I can't believe how much this can help your sound.

Re: MXR 10-band

Many amps don't need one. I used tons of EQ to try to clean up my JSX. I finally sold it and moved on. I'm now running a VHT and a Mesa Lonestar neither of which need any sort of external EQ.

Re: MXR 10-band

I run one in the loop of my JSX and it helps tremendously.
I used to run one in the loop of my 5150 as well.

Re: MXR 10-band

keep the 10 band..because its useful for shaping your sound if your playing somewhere that has an interesting shape..or if your amps tone is becoming flappy
the eq on your amp is great..try getting a dry tone first using everything on the amp then bring in your pedals especially the old eq...it will save you some day
