Need a new pu that fits with mesa amp

Hi - i have recently picked up a mesa nomad 45. I am using it with a rg550. I put in screamin demon in the bridge and a fred in the neck. The fred is just awesome, however, the screamin demon, to me, is lacking. I'm looking for something that will give me a nice thick palm muting sound (if that makes sense?). From what i hear, mesa tend to be mid-range heavy so i guess i should get a pu that has scooped mids. Looking at the following:
Steve's special
Dimebucker
Bill lawrence 500xl.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

thanks

jeff

screamin is a great pup, buts it is medium output, so you'd have to-do some signal boosting to get it up to par. I don't think a steves special will cure your problem. I'd go for one of the other two.

How about a Air Norton, Air Zone, Breed, Tone Zone, or an Invader?

out of this list, go for the invader...IMO or Pearly Gates, or if you can find a Pearly Gates Plus.

Ok you want palm muting stuff? go for a Steve's Special or a Tone Zone. The Dimebucker gets the worst clean sound ever...but a good dist sound..

Thanks for the replies so far....i don't care too much for clean sounds, just looking for some palm muting rhythms....maybe the dimebucker then?

thanks

The DiMarzio Steve's Special was specifically designed for John Petrucci to counteract the "mid-heavy" Mesa tone and lend it a more scooped sound.

I'd personally away from the Tone Zone and the Breeds for a more scooped/metal sound they're both extremely mid-heavy pickups.

In your shoes, I'd go for the Bill Lawrence, but simply as I haven't heard the Dimebucker, and I know that I love the crunch sound of an N4 (Lawrence equipped) with a boogie.

EMG ' 85 (...or you could try the '81) I have found that EMG's work for me. I play through a Dual Recto and I find that passives don't do it for me with that particular amp.

somemore of MO... lol

Steves Special - not enough juice I think for what you need.
EMG - well they sound like emgs, I'm not going there

but nothing wrong with emg, if thats the sound you want. I miss my jackson warrior with emgs..

I'd recommend maybe EMGs (don't have much experience with them, but they're "the" metal pickups), or (like I have in my Strat) a DiMarzio Super Distortion. Good rhythm tones, nice and heavy, high-output, enough highs to sound crisp (although a little too much on the higher strings at times), and even the clean tone is cool (kinda funky). All in all, I can hit some pretty decent Metallica-ish tones, as well as some decent nu-metal-ish tones, nice and clear, but also very heavy and distorted.

I second the super distortion, that is one of their hoittest pickups.
That will give you PLENTY of juice !
You might even wanna start with your gain low and build up until it sounds good with this pickup because its THAT hot, and it still cleans up ok.

there is a 30 day exchange on Dimarzio and Duncan also, so take advantage of that and try as many as you need to.
