Need a small practice amp...

Hey guys, I've come to the realization that I need a small amp for practice and jamming with my friends. I'm tired of dragging a big head and cabinet around just for a casual jam (nothing fancy, just a few friends who occasionally get together to play jazz/fusion, usually at lower volumes).

I'm willing to spend $300, so solid-states are definitely a consideration. I've heard good things about the Roland Cube. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Wade

Dunno what it goes for, but by all accounts the Orange Tiny Terror is a fabulous small amp. I am really warming to the Vox Valvetronix thingys too, but some effects (particularly the reverb) are pretty ordinary.

List on the TT is around $700, and he would still need a cab.

Im a big fan of my Valve Jr's with an external cab. With some good shopping you could be there.

Re: Need a small practice amp...

I have a Vox Valvetronix 30-watt and with the optional footswitch, it's got pretty much everything you need--two-channel programmable switching and effects on/off. Plus, for a small, lightweight amp, it's got the tube sound (cuz there's an ECC83 in there) and also on the 30-Watt + models you get a built in power soak/attenuator. This is now my standard for jamming/practicing, and I have a Marshall mini-stack and a Marshall DSL401.
