Need Advice! Ending the Need to buy more Gear!

Hi everybody.

i have a small dilemma.
How do you guys do it? i have gear acquisition syndrome aka G.A.S
It scares me to think how much i have spend each YEAR on buying
guitar gear. I came to the conclusion that my addiction has to stop.

Anyway i need some advice/recommendations.
This year i will sell off all my gear and keep my two anderson guitars.

WIth the help of my tax returns i will buy the Last RIG(yessireee)
i will ever need.

Basically, I need a compact and Simple NON-TUBE rig for home use and occasional live use.

I have done plenty of research on all the digital amps out there and
have came up with two rig options(feel free to suggest any cool
rigs if you think it might suit my needs)

1) Digitech GNX4 w/ two Tech 21 Power Engines

or

2) POD XT LIVE w/ two Tech 21 Power Engines

I am leaning toward option 1 because the gnx has recording/drums
/looping etc options.

well i am not in a rush to sell all my gear but i think
my GAS addiction has to end. I need to start spending money on other
things like furniture for the house or maybe a nice car.

anyway need some advice.

why not sell gear as you buy new gear? then you'd have a sort of rolling GAS fund

got news for you bud, this addiction cannot be curbed. This is because the addiction grows stronger everytime you get something new.

I think the only way to cure GAS is to quit guitar, and thats not cool at all. If you were to quit, you'd probably find another hobby to sink thousands of dollars into

My advice is to just accept the inevitable and enjoy all the gear you buy.

How dare you come to this forum and implythat GAS is a bad thing! Maybe you're just in the middle of a weak moment. Whatever it is, please get ahold of yourself and try not to post absurdities like this in the future.

Glen, I, and I'm sure countess others would appreciate it if you could kindly delete this entire thread. Just think of what could happen if one of our wives caught wind of this nonsense!

Yeah, it's the nature of the beast - you gotta embrace it. Any attempt to minimalize your rig will only make it worse.

Hell, my current amp is, for what I'm looking for, the best sounding thing I've ever plugged into, but I've still got my eyes open.

The "sell something to buy something else" idea is the best. also, maybe set up a second savings account specifically for guitar gear, and limit how much you can put aside into it, to try to keep it as a seperate cash pool?

I'll address the GAS issue here with one word - Budget. Set aside whatever amount you can afford monthly. The (my) desire to make new purchases never fully goes away. Occasionally a special guitar or amp will come along and suppress the GAS for a length of time, but as time goes on another piece of equipment will will begin to preoccupy your thoughts. My advice is to go with it. I see it as part of the creative process.

I say go tube and get a killer tone and THEN you can be sure you will not need to buy anything else anytime soon!

what good does putting a pod live in front of a amp that already has tons of effects?? isn't that kinda redundant??

if this is the same person i think it is why would you get another GNX??? , i think its the same person a lot of guys tried to help the last time you owned a Gnx, hey if it isnt then sorry

you didnt like the gnx 6 months ago , it hasnt changed, the only thing there is, there are heaps more amp models available now.

save your cash buy a good old marshall super lead or something like that and a pedal or two , heaps easier than wadeing through the manual

Re: Need Advice! Ending the Need to buy more Gear!

I have the same problem, but I finished my G.A.S. this year. I've my Jem 7VWH, my Wolfgang, a flightcase with an Ibanez 4x12, a 6 unit rack with 2 sennheiser wireless (Vox & Guitar), Boss GT-Pro, and a Mackie Poweramp, an FCB-1010 footboard, and that's it. I leave my 4x12 in the band van, and have a matching one at home to jam with.

The GT-Pro is more than I could ever use, and I know it. It should be the end of my GAS for at least 3-4 years I hope.

Best of luck with it.
