Isn't 300W of power a little bit off the scale? I mean, who the heck needs that much power?

Whenever I gig within 5 miles of my house I don't even have to show up. I just turn up my amp and play comfortably from the confines and privacy of my own bedroom. I'm still louder than the drummer!

Tech21 also just released a 300-watt Trademark head. Overkill? Yeah.
Even at 100 watts, i've got headroom galore. Running my
Peavey Classic
50/50 in bridged mode into my
Genz Benz
, i only had to turn up to 5 or 6 to completely drown out the rest of the band.

Your peavey
power amp
is tube right?
With a
solid state power amp
, such as the line 6 stuff, they always go overboard on the headroom, because it sounds like ass if a solid state power amp starts to break up.
With the peavey, you probably want it to break up a little.

I was wondering who'd start a thread about that one
. I think it sounds pretty promising, but have to check for myself. I think it's cool they're modeling newer amps now, like the 5150, Diezel, etc.
And what's up with the "we need more or at least 300 Watts"-attitude right now?? Marshall released their MF and it has 350 Watts
. I mean, come on... You never get to use that much power unless you really have to play in a stadium without a PA...
This is too much, really.

the flextone heads had 300 watts. it's for headroom, otherwise at higher volumes, the sound would suffer..............

Yeah, I thgink Marshall was the one who really started the "and now, with more wattage than all of New York City, our newest head!" trend, when they started pushing the 350-watt Mode-4. It''s solid state, so it's only giving you the same kind of output as a good 100-watt head, but odds are it won't be long before a
tube amp
comes out with 200-plus watts, from marketing pressure to compete with the all-important "kids with their parents credit card who don't know better" demographic.
Now, can you imagine THAT retubing bill?
Twohands, i saw that in a Guitar Player mag a while back, but I didn't think it was interesting enough to warrant posting here.

Yea, but if I passed it up, you'd all think there was something wrong with me
And it looks great to me
Still think I'll get a Vetta someday, cuz I'm a tweak-junky

For a EL34 amp it would be $90 every two to three years. I spend much more than this eating junk food every month.

Isnt that what most amps (and most things in the guitar department) at music chains are for?
