NEW GEAR DAY: Ibanez AF2 Airplane Flanger (Paul Gilbert)

Woohoo!

Of course, this thread is useless without sound clips so I'll have a review online hopefully by the end of the week. Of course it arrived right as I started work for the day (luckily it's a work-from-home day!) so I haven't had time to plug it in yet.

Haha, oh believe me, I had to pay for this! And I don't get much free gear at all. In my whole career I've got 4 software programs, some iPhone accessories, a 10-pack of strings and a set of pickups. Most of the freebies are in the form of concert tickets and CDs, and the beauty of having a blog is that you can choose what you review, rather than being told what to review, so I only ever need to cover gear and bands that I actually like.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago, and it has some very cool '70's swirl going on.

Paul video...

Yeah, I just gave it a quick run-through and I love the wah and talkbox settings recommended in the booklet.

cant you vary the take off pitch with that thing ?
every time Paul used the take off section it was exactly the same and it noticed that they cut quite a few "take off's" from the vid...

[shrugs] ill get one anyway

HA! Just get one, for the price they are a pretty good little unit. Some more expensive flangers might get you a better sound, but it's great bang for buck.... Plus, the thing looks seriously cool!

From my limited toying around, I don't think you can change the pitch of the take off, but rather the speed of the oscillation. It's cool stuff (take off mode), but it's not like the old Ada he used to have that enabled him to manually control it. So in that way, I think it's more gimmicky than anything else..... that said, so far I'm having fun!!!!!!!!!1
