New Line6 Amp

Well, after a few teasers in guitar mags, Line6 has let the cat out of the bag.

Check out the new Line6 combo complete with point-to-point interactive modeling ala H&K.

BTW, as you'll see, there is a head version of the new amp too.

While you're there check out the new rackmount effects modelers too:

Wow ! Nice and futuristic !
I'll have to lurk at my local music store more often so that I could spot one of these...

Really trying to appeal to the tube amp/retro crown with terms like "point to point" and "hand wired". *

Hahaha hand wired micron sized transistors in their microprocessors. *I took one look at the front of that head and almost started laughing. *When I think of an amp I think of a Marshall head or a diamond plated Mesa head, not a bunch of backlit LCDs. *Yuck!

At some level I believe modelling can be successful, I studied simulation in college and graduate school, but trying to model the eccentricites of every single component and how they interact is probably impossible (which isn't to say that it won't sound good, it just won't be the same).

i really like what line6 is doing, they are definitely pushing forward in their field and making the possibility of effective and believable simulation a reality. *i think to say that it will never happen could be a bit shortsighted. *i mean, who ever thought that microprocessors and robotic arms would perform microscopic surgery on people? *it just takes time and research to make it possible, and i commend line6 for their overwhelming contribution to the field.

by the way, i have a flextone II, but my main rig is still my rack with tube preamps and a vht tube power section. *commending efforts and compromising tone are two different things. *

I don't know about you people, but for me everything that has buttons, hundreds of knobs and LCD displays isn't an amp anymore and is much over my intelectual capabilities to comprehend....

I have to agree with you. I don't have the time, patience, or the magnifier needed to use these damn things. I bet, soon, you'll be able to access the internet from your guitar amp! :lame:

I've no problem with all that fancy stuff as long as I can get great tones out of it and call them up when I want.

I think it's worth a try.

Ouch. *I think I'd rather buy a Dual Rectifier head or full Legacy stack for that price. *STEEP!

maybe i'm a tube snob clearly out of the FX loop, but i cannot believe the absurd prices of this stuff. $2k for a 'modeling amp'? $599 for a controller? It would be nice to see this modeling stuff bomb at retail to stop copycat products and lower pricing... glen
