Re: New tubes arrived, any suggestions for combos?
the tung-sol gpins are nice. i use them myself. but only in v1. in this posistion i find then to slightly warm the tone at the same time tightening the low end significantlly while quiting down noise. the biggest benifiet i find from ts-gp in v1 is the clarity.
i use a varity of different preamp tubes in v2 depending on the channel and the amps sounds. jj's are good if you want a darker feel with some added warmth, mullards if the amp is bright, thin and needs alot of warmth.
power tube section.... i'm partial to jj's. i like teh darker warm tone they provide. for my style, its just the right amount of warmth and tightness for my set-up. i run jj's in the preamp section as well, no-goldpins though.
as far as combo's... i have a randall rm100 head with jj 6L6's in v1 and v4, and jj e34ls in v2-3. i got'em biased at the hotter end of the rated voltage scope. this amp cooks. no need for a signal boost. hoope this helps
