Newby needs advice - Jamming and recording

I'm rather new to all of this. Been playing acoustic for 20+ years and recently got a Strat.

I have a Boss GT-3 effects processor which I LOVE. Thinking of getting the JamStation to have some "backing" while I'm playing.

Ultimately, I want to be able to record some of my own stuff. Maybe even upload it to a Website eventually. But I'm rather confused and uninformed about MIDI and the capabilities of my equipment.

Do I need to puchase a 4-track "studio" to be able to record, or is there some software out there on the Web that can do this for me? What's involved?

I appreciate any ideas or info.

You can use recording/midi software like Cakewalk. I currently use and have no probs making quick drums, bass and keys which I do not have. You can also try to record direct from the headphone of the out's from your GT3 but I don't know how good is the quality you may get. Experiment. See what's best for you...
