Nickel Plated vs. Blue Steel: Fret wear?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Blue Steel's will eat up your frets faster than nickel plated strings. Is this true? I like Blue Steel tone, but I can't justify spening an extra buck or two for longer string life when it'll just end up wearing the frets down faster.

i use blue steels, some frets are getting worn, but i've been playing this guitar for three years, used to be quite a hard fretter, now i have a much lighter touch ..
