Question

No input signal?

I've got a Profire 610 as my recording interface that I'm using with a MacBook Pro which has Logic Express 8 installed. But when I press record and play my guitar, nothing is recorded. There seems to be no input signal coming in. The green LED next to the first microphone XLR input is not lit up (it only lights up briefly when I turn the Profire 610 on).

I've got the Profire 610 selected as the input device in the Mac OS as well as Logic Express 8.

The Mac 'sees' the Profire 610 (it appears in the 'FireWire' section of 'About this Mac').

I've installed the drivers for the Profire 610.

I've got all the cables hooked up right (my Macbook has FireWire 800, btw, so I'm using a Belkin FireWire 800 9 pin to FireWire 400 6 pin cable).

I don't have the master volume on the front panel of the Profire 610 set to zero.

And still it doesn't work. So what am I missing and/or doing wrong?

I'm using a Shure SM57 microphone, btw.

Re: No input signal?

1. Is the phantom power turned on?
2. What is the gain for the channel set to?
3. If you plug headphones, can you hear anything?
4. Why are you using Firewire 800 to 400? Use whatever version the profire can handle.
5. Have you also selected the profire as the output device?

Re: No input signal?

I've got it working now. Turns out you have to put the gain and the volume WAY up before you hear anything; something I was reluctant to do as I didn't want to blow up anything.

Thanks, Jimmy.
