Noisy reverb on Carvin Legacy

Hi!
I just got a Carvin Legacy VL100 and it really really rocks! It's the best tube amp i have tried yet and much better sounding (for my style) than my previous Dual Rectifier. So i really love this amp. I have a question though... Is it normal that when you turn up the reverb it becomes very noisy? My Mesa didn't have reverb so i didn't use, but the reverb on the Legacy is so good sounding that i want to use it, but it's a bit noisy. Is it normal?

maybe someone here will post it but you should try posting at the Carvin Forum because I thought I heard of a recall of sorts about noisy reverb units and Carvin will repair/replace them for free.

Re: Noisy reverb on Carvin Legacy

ok thanks!
But there must be someone here who has a Legacy and can try if they experience the same problem. It's only when i turn up on the reverb it's noisy. Even if everything else is turned down. And it's not a hum but more like a hiss, like when you turn the gain to eleven. But only from the reverb....
Please help!

I had the same problem with my Carvin MTS. It went away when I retubed the amp, so I don't know if old tubes have anything to do with the noise.

Re: Noisy reverb on Carvin Legacy

I don't have that problem on my Legacy combo. One tube is responsible aading reverb to your sound, maybe it had it's best time. try replacing it ot maybe switch it with another equal tube in your amp (dont know the reverb tube type of the legacy by heart, you'll have to look that up :-) )

Re: Noisy reverb on Carvin Legacy

yeah there is a tube buffer circuit for just the reverb that may be bad so you can try swapping a tube into the V4 slot I believe. Also make sure while you're in there to check to make sure the reverb cables are plugged in all the way.

Re: Noisy reverb on Carvin Legacy

I checked the cables and they sit tight. I didn't swab the tubes but i really can't find out if the noise is normal or not. When i use the lead channel i get the same noise... A hiss... But if i turn everything down and only turn up the reverb i get the same hiss... Maybe it's just the tube.. The amp is brand new.

Re: Noisy reverb on Carvin Legacy

some hiss is normal in a amplifier. Again, try changing the tubes around and stuff. It could just be the tubes are cheap and cause some noise too. I wasn't too fond of Carvin's stock tubes, I prefer JJ's personally.

Re: Noisy reverb on Carvin Legacy

The stock tubes are Groove Tubes and should be ok, but I'll try it when i get the time to pickup some new tubes. Thanks!
