Noob question: *CABLES* (guitar to amp cables)
Hi Everyone,
Now that I have my first electric, I'm needing all the accompanying gear, including the basic stuff like cables. LOL So one question off the bat that I have is, what type/style/brand of cable should I look at?
In various groups, like home audio and video philes, there are big debates on the merits of expensive vs. cheap cables. What is this climate like in the guitar/instrument world?
Is there a significant difference between cheap generic guitar cables and more expensive NAME brands (whatever those names might be...)?
Suggestions appreciated. Need to buy my first cable(s) soon.
Thanks!!
Jason

Re: Noob question: *CABLES* (guitar to amp cables)
when you get a cheap one you get loads of horrible hiss and generally poorer signal quality
more expensive ones tend to last longer, are pretty much silent and youre guitar will sound so *good* in comparison.
i used to skimp on cables until i bought a
planet waves
one. went from about 3 cables a year to this one which has lasted me 3 years!

If you are just starting, do what we ALL would have done, and get something with a LIFETIME warranty
Something like a George L or
Monster Cable
or something. When it eventually breaks, bring it back and get another.

Any quality cable is a noticeable improvement over a cheap one. I would never spend the money for Monster though. That guy is running the biggest scam since the moon landing.

I recommend Proco, I've had these cables a few years and they still sound good and they were pretty cheap. And I think there's a 20 year warranty.

If you have the skills or the tools needed, you could always make your own cables.

I'm guilty... monster cables! I think the lifetime warranty thing is awesome. Just bring it into any store and they will exchange it on the spot. As far as sound quality any half way decent cable will work. Better yet, go wireless!!!

x2 I make my own as well and I use wire better than most stuff out there with connectors of high quality and its cheaper than most run of the mill cables.
Plus as a bonus I get lengths I need.

Horizon has a lifetime warranty and they dont forcibly sodomize you in the way monster does.

Where do you source your bulk cable that you're buying by the foot and cutting to length? And how are you able to determine what is GOOD quality cable when buying it that way?
Thanks.

Re: Noob question: *CABLES* (guitar to amp cables)
I use Canare wire which is a incredible wire its affordable but not cheap
http://www.markertek.com/SearchProdu...ff=1&sort=prod
Also I use better connectors from partsexpress which can be pricey as well.
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=092-106
But in the end when you assemble a cord that will kick 90% of the stuff on the markets ass its very affordable. And still cheaper than monster cable LOL.
