Nuno Bettencourt Amps?
Any idea what he used on the Extreme albums? His tone is nuts.

Re: Nuno Bettencourt Amps?
from what I remember it was his original setup in the early 90's was:
ADA MP-1 tube preamps
ADA power amps
Roland ME-5 or 6
old Ampeg V4 cabs
then switch cab's
Marshalls & Custom Cabinets loaded with 25 Watt Celestion Speakers
he had other
Boss Pedal
effects later also, he also tried
Mesa Boogie
for a brief time too.

Re: Nuno Bettencourt Amps?
I've heard rumours he actually recorded a lot with a medium wattage Soldano.
On the 4th album I think he used an old Fender Vibroverb, a 63 if I recall correctly.

Re: Nuno Bettencourt Amps?
He did, and he got a great sound outta the Vibroverb.
bluealien is also correct. Of course, a significant part of his sound is the Bill Lawrence pickup too.

Re: Nuno Bettencourt Amps?
The Vibroverb was on Waiting for the Punchline, you can really tell it.
The first disc was a JMP Master Volume.
Pornograffitti was an ADA MP-1 through an old MacIntosh (not the computer people)
tube power amp
, he used ADA power amps live. It also had some of the Marshall too.
I'm pretty sure III Sides had the ADA, Marshall, and a
Soldano SLO
on it too.
These days he pretty much uses Marshall, he also endorses the H&K Triamp, but in the clips I've seen of him, there are Marshalls behind him.
Oh yeah, you have to have an old Rat pedal for his tone, it's pretty much always on, more as a tone filter than a distortion box, I think the distortion is set pretty low.

The Bill and Becky ones are the ones to get, that's what's in his main N4. Washburn uses the Bill Lawrence USA pickups in the guitars, probably because they are cheaper and quicker to get, but that's not the tone.

Re: Nuno Bettencourt Amps?
From what I remember, the ADA was mostly a "live" tool. I remember reading that the first album was a Marshall, the second many believed to be MESA BOOGIE (although it sounds like the ADA the most of any album), and III sides, all rhythms are a Soldano,,,,I think leads on that album were some H&K amp. This info on III sides was right in a magazine interview. Punchline was the Fender. I also agree that the Bill Lawrence pickup is kinda unique,,,I have one in my N4, and it definitely has that Nuno vibe. Not that I sound like him with that guitar......he is one naturally, unbelievably talented guitarist. He's in a league with EVH, Vai, Yngwie.......just naturally, effortlessly amazing.

Re: Nuno Bettencourt Amps?
if i recall correctly, the first album was a mix of a marshall and a laney. one of the best sounds imo. much fuller than pornographitti. especially the leads.
