Odd 3rd string noise

Hi

I bought some new ernie ball "not even slinky" strings a week ago and put them on my guitar and tuned down 1 1/2 steps. Much to my dissapointment i fount that the 3rd string seems to have a sort of buzzing noise on every fret on the fret board and it seems to have less sustain that the other strings. BTW its gauge is 24p. Ive checked my action and it is fine it is not 2 low at all. I was just wondering what could be wrong with the string. Is it my guitar or is the string just a dud?

Thanks alot

Maybe you need a truss rod adjustment. Although it would be more likely that if the neck was out it would affect all of the strings... but still possible nonetheless.

I stopped using EB's ages ago... too bright and buzzy, also they tended to snap/unwind easily. I now use Rotosound.

Re: Odd 3rd string noise

Is the guitar a strat? There's a good chance this isn't the problem, but I find that with a lot of strat pups that have the vintage pole piece stagger, the G comes off really funky - on some it sounds way too harsh, on some it buzzes like crazy etc.

In actuality, it probably is a loose saddle, or machine head etc, but just putting the idea out there GL fixing it.

Re: Odd 3rd string noise

Nah my guitar is an RGA321. But the thing is i noticed that there was a rattling sound inside the machinehead for the 1st string, but i wouldn't think that a rattle in the machinehead for the 1st string would cause problems on the 3rd string. But the rattle does become most noticable when the 3rd string is played, but the niose doesnt come through the amp.
