Ok..
This is where it stands now.
I called FedEx and told them the product was damaged. It was sent uninsured (wtf he did that, I'll never know).
The customer service rep told me insurance doesn't mean much other then a shortcut through red tape. They still honor claims insured or uninsured. It just takes a bit more work.
I filled out a claim for she faxed to me and faxed it back, hopefully I'll hear something soon.
It's official tho, the unit is f*cked. Unless I suddenly forgot how to use it in a week, but I doubt it.
