Oh boy... - 2120 **** purchase damaged in shipping..

Ok, so I bought a 2120 off of ****.

The unit doesn't even look like it's ever even been rack mounted. There's one tiny scratch on the top that's not even feelable (if that's a word).

Here's my problem:

FedEx beat the f*ck out of it.

Both rack ears are bent backwards about 3-4mm bowing the whole face out. As long as there's no electrical damage, I can probably fix it (I'm still at work so I haven't had a chance to take it home and plug it in yet).

I've contacted the guy who sold it to me, but have not heard back yet. He was very nice and responded well before, so I'm sure he'll be open.

What would you guys do?

BTW- I paid $400 even for it.

Estimate the cost of the casing for the unit itself is $50. *Plus maybe $20 for labor and tools(even if you do it yourself)... and then add in the cost of shipping. *Fax it to FedEx and see what they say. *You should definately get compensation for it.

You can't do much more until you determine how much insurance was purchased for the item, and if the unit works or not. I would contact FedEx Monday morning and tell them the package was damaged in transit and outline the exact damage. Speak to them about creating a claim for the damaged item... glen

I know one thing, I have yet to see packages more damaged than fedex one's. It looks like they beat the crap out of them on purpose.

I had the same thing happen to me with a unit sent via FedEx(tra dammaged). The way they handle thier claims is, they send out a rep, take both the item and the box the item came in, and then leave you without your gear. Then they send it out to be repaired/replaced at thier descretion and then send it back to you. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but why would I want THEM to ship it back to me after destroying it the first time? Doesn't make sence.

I told them no, pitched a major bytch, and got a check 4 weeks later for the insured (purchase) price.

Good luck with them.

I ship CD’s via FedEx every day. *About 50 percent of them have Jewel Case damage when they arrive. *That’s not claim-worthy damage. *Just commenting on the ruffian handling techniques of the people and/or machinery.

Ok..

This is where it stands now.

I called FedEx and told them the product was damaged. It was sent uninsured (wtf he did that, I'll never know).

The customer service rep told me insurance doesn't mean much other then a shortcut through red tape. They still honor claims insured or uninsured. It just takes a bit more work.

I filled out a claim for she faxed to me and faxed it back, hopefully I'll hear something soon.

It's official tho, the unit is f*cked. Unless I suddenly forgot how to use it in a week, but I doubt it.

*sigh*

Woe is me.

Whenever I send something off, I always ask the buyer if he/she wants insurance, and I ad that to the shipping costs. I tell them if they don't get it insured, then neither me or the post office will be responsible for any damage. Insurance is usually cheap too, like, $2 for every $100 worth.

How screwed up is that 2120? It may be fixable. Does it make any weird noises or anything?

So far from what I can tell, part of the input section is f*cked. I get no audible sound through the unit unless I enable the tube preamp section (and I know this isn't the case with the unit normally).

Something got smashed around in there... and I'm not too happy about it.
