Overdrive

So Im on the quest for the ultimate overdrive pedal to use with my Egnater Rebel 20.

So far I own the following.......

1. Ibanez TS9
2. Ibanez TS9 DX
3. MXR ZWOD
4. Boss SD-1
5. MXR Custom OD (its on the way from Music 123 )
6. Radial Tone Bone Classic
7. Radial Tone Bone Hot British

I don't feel that Ive found my favorite yet. Except the Custom OD since I dont have it yet. So if you could tell me what your favorite one(s) are and why that might help me find the one Im looking for and maybe others that are looking too!

Re: Overdrive

Well all I know is the Ibanez TS9, Boss SD-1 and Boss DS-1 are regarded as three of the best Distortion/Overdrive stompboxes ever.

Re: Overdrive

I tried out the Fulltone OCD and though it was fantastic. Very dynamic (especially on the 18V setting) - and sounded great. I'd buy it.

Re: Overdrive

I would try out a MI Audio Tube Zone, if I were you. In my opinion, the ultimate overdrive stomp box

Re: Overdrive

Here is something for you to consider:

Robert Keeley or Analogman modded Tube Screamer (as used by the biggest names in the business, true bypass being included of coarse)
ZenDrive as used by Mr Petrucci
Klon Centaur overdrive pedal (I hear Mark Tremonti raving about this on a youtube video)
T-Rex MAB Overdrive (Michael Angelo's pedal which is apparently not so bad!)
DOD YJM308 Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Overdrive Pedal (i think he has fantastic tone, and due to this has a very nice low end, plus analogman do a mod on this pedal to get the original old GRAY DOD 250 sound plus true bypass etc)

Re: Overdrive

For my overdrive, I actually use a Keeley modded BD-2 Blues Driver. It gets me just enough grit to really get a big, open, rich tone with just the right amount of saturation, but won't get muddy. I'd post sound clips, but the clips on Keeley's site are better.

Good call! Not sure how I managed to leave out the YJM308. I've been using the YJM308 (stock) for a good 5 or 6 years now. Best $29 I've spent on anything. I've gone through quite a few OD's and distortion pedals:

- Marshall Guv'nor (original)
- Marshall Drive Master (highly recommend and prefer over the Guv'nor)
- Radial Tone Bone Hot British
- Ibanez Tube King
- Boss SD-1
- Boss DS-1
- BBE Green Screamer
- Ibanez TS9
- MXR Distortion III

I'm sure there were a few others, those are all I can think of off the top of my head. Having owned those pedals, I always went back to the YJM308.

At what settings, and for what purpose? I have one, but it is not really anything like I had expected. I bought it without trying it when I was still a clueless guitar runt, and for everything that I have tried using it for I don't really like its sound.

Re: Overdrive

what are you looking to do? use it on a clean or low gain sound? or boost an already driven tone?

either way, i recommend the bb preamp, or ac booster

if it was to get all ur overdrive / distortion needs, id say get an mi audio tube zone

Is that like the black one(the DOD 250 YJM Sig) If so that was the noisiest pedal Ive ever heard! I hope the mod fixes that!!!!!!!!

Re: Overdrive

It fixes alot of problems with the pedal, i think they are quieter but the big issue about the low end being different is certainly addressed. The pedal is offered two mods and the low end is make alot chunkier like the original gray pedal. Here is the mod page for the YJM308
