Peavey Classic 30, any opinions?

I'm looking at buying a Peavey Classic 30, and was after some input from experienced users. I plan to use it for home practice, with a distortion pedal in front, maybe a delay in the loop too.

So, will it give me a nice metal tone at bedroom levels?

Any opinions or advice appreciated.

Rock on!

It's perfect for what you want to use it for. Consider a Fulltone OCD pedal.

awesome amp. great for country, pop, blues, and classic rock/garage rock. super clean channel and it has an awesome dirty sound without being a gain whore. i would look into getting a ds-1 if you don't already have one, just to make it go to 11.

I've actually been thinking about getting one of these locally. What do they usually go for? There's a guy that wants 325 for the combo, and he is acting like that's a pretty sweet deal, of course he is the one selling it so I just wanted to check.

The combo is open back. You should try and find one of the newer ones that come with a tube guard and JJ Tesla EL84's...They are much better than the Sovtek's they usually come with. I love mine, and it covers a lot of styles well...Dirty channel is just ok, but put a good quality OD in front of it and it sounds lots better...Modded SD-1, Wampler Hot Wired, Keeley Katana sound great with it...I wouldn't recommend a DS-1 with it, unless you like harsh, sterile tones. You could also swap the speaker for something a bit better than the stock Blue Marvel. Also, maybe have a look into a used blackface Fender Super Reverb if you can find a good deal on one.

So how's the fullness of it's sound? I usually choose closed back over open, but I'd like to know if it the Classic 30 is full enough and has good articulation without a closed back?

And are there any other inexpensive 1-12 combos with awesome cleans you would reccomend. I got all the distortion and drive tones I want.

Sounds really full and really cuts through at gigs and jams...For the money, the cleans on the Classic 30 are stellar, but if you can get a similar deal on a Fender Deluxe or Super Reverb, go with one of those instead. Don't buy sight and sound unseen though. You should definitely try before buying, as with anything....I've got 3 vids up on Youtube using the Classic 30's clean channel. I can demo the dirty channel if you like, with and without an OD pedal. Here's the vids:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHsREhJ-j7A

Kinda crappy quality from the camera I was using, but it gives you a little bit of an idea anyways....Also, vids were with the amp at no higher than 2.5 (goes to 12). To be blunt, this amp can get super ****ing loud!

Re: Peavey Classic 30, any opinions?

I've had my C30 for many years and mostly used it around the house with great results.

I use several dirt pedals to get what I'm after without having to crank the amp. I always used my Hot Rod Deluxe at gigs and then one day I took the C30 to a gig. I haven't looked back since. I get great sounds out of it at any level. It's not quite as chimey as the Fender but it still does the job and humbucking guitars are just wonderful with it.

I usually have it off the ground backed up pretty close to a wall so some of that bass reflects out the back and sounds really full. I've never tried it with an extension cabinet but I have several to try. I'm just too lazy because I'll probably love it and end up having to haul another box into a gig.

What do you use to get it off the ground? I find that with the amp sitting flat on the floor, the carpet eats a lot of the tone, and the sound is kinda muddy...
