Peavey Classic 50 pedal recommendation

Hey guys I'm looking for a new amp I tried one one out at my local ****** and I really liked the tone and openness of it. Sounded great. Only thing is it didn't have quite enough gain for leads. Especially when I started getting around 12th fret and up things just sounded thin and grainy.

Any recommendations on a pedal to try it with, the BBE Sonic Stomp and OCD have been reommended.

Also I'm playing mainly "shred" if you will. Gilbert, Satch, Vai for example.

The Tube Screamer (or one of it's clones) is probably the most commonly used boost pedal, but I really like the MXR 10 band EQ as a more versatile alternative. It has gain for a transparent boost, a level control, and EQ as well if you want to fine tune your tone.

Good luck, and have fun with your new amp.

Rock on!

Has plenty of gain for leads. You just need to turn your volume up past bedroom levels! I've gigged with my Classic 30, and it has more than enough gain...If you really want a boost though, an SD-1 works really well with them, and also try the Lizard Leg Flying Dragon clean boost...

I just got a classic 50 and both Vox Satchurator and Time Machine, run em through the clean or 'normal' channel and it sounds just like a cranked JSX crunch channel.. Amazing sound for less price!

Nice tones, davet247!

I sometimes think I might have blown it by not just getting a Classic 30 or 50 in the first place. (Although my Rockmaster rack preamp is very sweet too.)

Thanks :-)

It's all about what works for the individual, you could have a piece of **** amp or the best tube amp but you can always find some way of making it work well for your style. I just wanted to down size my gear and it worked well. I even bought a £20 ($30) practice amp from Wallmart (ASDA) the other day and got that to sound pretty good with a DS-1!

Take a look...
