Well, I've decided I am going to try one out, for a week or so, to make up my mind on it really, as I'd love to play around with it.
But if anyone else has tried one out in the meantime, do tell !
I am particularly interested in the noise gate and overall flavour of the high gain channel

JSX
the noisegate is kinda useless for me since i dont play at super high volumes and uhhhh the ultra channel is really over the top. its pretty rad even though i dont use it much...the gain is just wayyy up there.

loads of people at harmony central have reported excessive noise problems, and the noise gate apparently doesn't do anything to help it.
A guy from peavey responded saying they are looking into it.
But other than the noise the tone seems to be awesome, like a XXX with a better crunch channel, and less gain on the ultra

I probably even know why they're having these problems. That's because low noise metal film resistors are about 5 times as expensive as cheap carbon film resistors, sometimes more than that.

There's also a rumor that Joe's talking to Soldano about a custom head, I don't know if it's due to Peavey quality control or not. The problems seem like easy fixes to me. Personally I don't know why he didn't stick with Cornford. Supposedly EVH is working with Crate on a signature amp,

that's why no matter what amp I buy (unless it's like Bogner or something) I'm gunna buy it and spend like $1,000 ripping everything out and replacing with hella exspensive components. Oh and for your information the clean channel was taken from the XXX clean, the crunch from the Classic 50 and the ultra channel from the XXX Crunch channel with a touch less gain.

You can do it for a lot less if you know what to replace. Resistors only really matter in high-gain amps. Capacitors matter very little, but they can affect the tone, too, and the price difference between the good ones and the bad ones is even more drastic.
Having said that, I heard Satch play through JSX and he sounded awesome. I think Peavey makes heads with the "right" resistors for him. :-)

I would think that Peavey and Satch have a contract together since the amp is in full production now. And why would EVH want
another
signature amp?

Interesting. He has probably been messing around with Sammy's Red Voodoos.

No, he's just running out of advertisement money.
Any company can put together a nice amp for a guy like Eddie. You don't have to be a genius to do this. Besides, I heard back in the day he used all these promotional amps only as
power amps
, and had a nice Soldano (or Marshall, I can't recall) head running behind the wall-o-cabinets.
