Re: Peavey ValveKing or Peavey Vypyr

what are you using the amp for? small gigs/ larger gigs or just for practice?

I have a valveking 112. They're great for practice and for gigs. It's quite a loud amp and can be used for small gigs and can be miked up through the PA for more volume. You can also connect an external speaker to the vk112. I don't think that the valveking would have quite enough gain for progressive metal but you can easily boost it with a decent pedal.

Hope that helps,
Dan

i`m usin the amp for practicing and large gigs , i can`t buy bigger stuff cuz i travel alot and it would be hard 2 carry somethin big,,,and i don`t wanna connect more pedals and stuff,,i`m bored of pedals , i used 2 have boss GT8 and some more pedals with my amp
but now i can`t carry all those stuff to the place i`m movin to...so i think peavey vypyr 75 is gd enough right?

Hey, I have a Peavey Valveking 2x12 and it's a great amp. Great tone, great distortion and loud. I'm a bedroom player and I rarely go over 1... But I've played with a band once or twice and it was able to handle it self alright. I've tried the Vyper and I like them... but They really don't sound like tubes too me and not alot of good clean sounds compared to the valveking.

Re: Peavey ValveKing or Peavey Vypyr

avoid the vypyr. i bought one and after a week it decided that it would only work when it wanted too. i took it back and the salesguy said that they have had that problem a lot. then i went to a guitar center and he said the same thing. i would avoid the vypyr. sounds better than the spyders in its range, but only dependable as a paper weight. good luck.....
search the net for problems with vypyrs and you should find plenty of info about it.
on the other side, maybe they have corrected this problem....

I have a Vypyr 30. Love that little amp. I sold all my other amps. Occasionally it doesn't turn on the first time and you have to turn it off and on a couple of times to get it to come on, but that's it. Works great, and sound GREAT!!.

thats what i am talkin about. if i pay for an amp, i want it to work on my schedule. not when it wants to. IF the amp was ten years old or something, then i could live with it, but not in a brand new amp. take it back. its just gonna get worse.

If you're at home and the amp decides to not work then thats one thing. If you're up on a stage with a hungry audience then that is a completely different matter. You need a reliable amp. Going by these comments i'd say the Vypyr isn't reliable

Re: Peavey ValveKing or Peavey Vypyr

One thing I've noticed about the amps, on the 75 watt solid state, the high gain models seem to pretty much sound exactly the same. Also, there's a noise gate you can't turn off...... AT ALL. So that kinda kills it right there.
