Peavey Vypyr

Okay,

So I went to GC today and traded in my vk for the vypyr. I know it's not the worlds best move but I need something smaller for my place and I just loved the tone of the amp. However, I got one that was in a box... Got it home and saw that it was previously been open, there was no manual nor a free demo of Revalver....

Here is when it gets good....

I plugged the amp into the wall and plugged my guitar in the amp. Turned it on and everything powered up fine. However, I don't get no speaker noise or any guitar as a matter of fact. So, is there something I need to do with the amp before I can get to work or is mine a defect?

I can download the manual and the demo from the site so that's no concern but the amp not working. That's a biggie. :-( Any ideas? If nothing I'm taking it back to get a new one tomorrow.

Take it back and get a NEW one. It sounds like GC messed up.

Re: Peavey Vypyr

I'm currently searching for a modelling amp, and when I tried the Vypyr I found that there are a few volume controls/gain controls etc. that need to be turned up before you hear anything.

But the Vypyr was far too complex to use live so I've ruled it out anyway.

Re: Peavey Vypyr

There have been ALOT of issues with these amps and if you check out the Peavey forum, you'll see what I mean. http://forums.peavey.com/viewforum.php?f=33

Sounds like GC sold you a return. I'm sure they'll exchange it for you.

I suppose I'm lucky. I got a Vypyr 100 a few weeks back and I've had no issues at all with it. Based on what I've read though I'm the exception, not the rule.

In my opinion, the Vypyr amp models are some of the best I've heard compared to comparable products from Line 6 and Vox. The effects are decent but (again in my opinion) could use a little "refinement". The controls are fairly simple to use one you learn how they're configured but don't even think about using the amp live without the $200.00 Sanperra II pedalboard.

My two biggest gripes are that the 2X12 models are not stereo and the build quality is not up to Peavey's usual standard. I doubt that these amps will hold up very well when gigged regularly.

Having said this and considering the relatively low cost of these amps, I think the Vypyrs represent a very good overall value for a practice/recording/small/ocassional gig amp.

Re: Peavey Vypyr

I tried out the 50 watt vypyr and it sounded ok, but with all the problems I've read about I've desided to wait until the fall, when Peavey releases a 1x12 jsx.
