Peavey Windsor

Hey I already asked some guys on Ultimate-Guitar (And they were helpful! AMAZING!) about this amp, but I don't want to take my chances or put my faith in one groups opinion. How does everyone here feel about this amp? I hear that it is like a JCM800 on steroids for half the price...Any opinions / descriptions you could throw my way?

Re: Peavey Windsor

While I certainly would not call it a JCM800 on steroids, it IS a decent amp for the cash. It tends to get a bit buzzy, though. I know there are already people modding them, to help eliminate that, but for the life of me, I can't remember where I saw it, online. I wanted that beefed, JCM800 tone, so I went back to a Laney AOR head. Worth every penny.

Re: Peavey Windsor

I've been considering the Windsor studio combo as a new amp seeing as I don't need anything too big. I had heard too that it is a little like a JCM800 with a little extra grit. The Laney GH50/100Ls are supposed to be like that too aren't they? I don't have the cash/room/need for an amp as loud as one of them so he Windsor might suit me nicely if it's fairly close.

Re: Peavey Windsor

Well, just by looking at it, you can see they were TRYING to emulate a JCM800, but, like I mentioned before, it has a certain buzz to it, and seems to be lacking something. You may want to do what I did, and scoop up a Laney AOR, but in the combo version. They can be found, frequently, for decent prices on Evilbay. They come in 100, 50, and 30 watts. IF you don't need a lot of power, I'd go with the 30 watt. Still pretty loud. Or try to scoop up a Marshall 4203. SS pre and tube power section. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the info. Had a look and those Laneys and the MArshall 4203 don't seem to be coming up on e-Bay at the moment.

Re: Peavey Windsor

I thought the combo would be more blues aimed like most 15w tube amps
